Winston Reid Transfer Rumours: Latest News as Liverpool, Tottenham Hunt Defender
West Ham will block any immediate attempt for Winston Reid to leave the football club in light of interest from Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
David Maddock of the Daily Mirror quotes Hammers manager Sam Allardyce speaking about his team's current injury crisis, with three centre-backs now sidelined—including Reid.
Allardyce has therefore shut the door on any last-minute outgoings from Upton Park, dashing the hopes of parties wishing to do business with the club:

"Quite a few clubs have been trying to take some of our squad players away. That is not acceptable in terms of where we are at the minute and that has upset those players because they can probably get longer or bigger contracts elsewhere.
But with the position I am in, they will just have to grin and bear it. They are contracted to this club and while you would like to help them, you can’t.
"

Reid has just five months remaining on his current deal with the club. It now appears likely the 26-year-old defender will walk on a free at the end of the campaign.
The New Zealand international has seen his stock explode in the past two seasons, and he has been one of Allardyce's primary performers.
Reid has clocked up 24 appearances in the Premier League and FA Cup this term, per WhoScored.com. However, he limped off at Anfield at the weekend, sparking fresh injury concerns, per Maddock.

John Cross of the Mirror says Reid will now join Spurs for the 2015-16 campaign on a lucrative Bosman deal and will command a wage of £60,000 per week on his arrival in north London.
Cross says the Hammers are "well aware of the situation" with Reid and Spurs, but the player is not yet eligible to sign a pre-contract with his potential new team.
Football pundit Martin Keown recently spoke about Reid to the Daily Mail, considering whether he would be a good option for Arsenal, as they look to improve their defensive stock.
Keown questioned if Reid is good enough for the top end of the Premier League, saying:
"He’s [Reid] certainly improved since I first saw him and he’s a good player now, though I don’t think there’s a big difference between him and James Tomkins. If they didn’t think Tomkins was good enough, will they go for Reid? If they do, he will have to come in and play.
Arsene Wenger expects all his players to be able to play. But right now, unless he’s available, I don’t think it will happen. I’m not even sure if the player would want to leave as he will be looking for guaranteed first-team football and I’m not sure he would get that at Arsenal.
"

Reid is a superb defender, and Allardyce will find it hard to replace his talents. He has grown in the Hammers' first team but is ready to take the next step and play for a club competing for a Champions League place.
Spurs are the perfect choice for Reid, who has the qualities to replace Ledley King—a centre-back the team has never truly found a replacement for since his retirement in 2012.
However, Reid will be one of the hottest free agents in English football in just a matter of months, so there will be no surprise if Tottenham face a long battle to acquire his signature.
