Bayern Munich vs. Schalke: Team News, Predicted Line-Ups, Live Stream, TV Info

Stefan BienkowskiFeb 1, 2015

Bayern Munich will welcome Schalke to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday, February 3, with every intention of overturning their surprise defeat to Wolfsburg in the last round of Bundesliga games.

Pep Guardiola's side go into their first home match of 2015 as heavy favourites despite the dip in form, but they could face similar troubles against a Roberto Di Matteo team that have gotten their act together after a wobbly start to the season.

Schalke have only lost one of their last seven league matches and managed to hold the Bavarian giants to a 1-1 draw in the mirror fixture to this one in the first half of the season, suggesting this coming clash may be a lot tighter than previous anticipated.

Team News

Despite the heavy defeat to Wolfsburg, Guardiola can at least rely on a clean bill of health for the majority of his players.

The usual suspects in Javi Martinez, Thiago Alcantara and Philipp Lahm all remain injured, leaving Guardiola with very few options in the middle of the park while Franck Ribery and Rafinha—who both missed the clash with Wolfsburg—also look as if they'll miss the mid-week game too.

Although Schalke enjoyed an impressive 1-0 win over Hannover to introduce them to 2015, all three points came at a cost.

The most notable of these will undoubtedly be the loss of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who was sent off with just five minutes remaining after a rash challenge on Hannover's Manuel Schmiedebach. The Dutch striker will now obviously be out of action for the next few games through suspension and miss the Bayern game.

Elsewhere Di Matteo will also most likely be without defensive midfielder Marco Hoger after the German player came off with a thigh strain in Saturday's game. Playing in the central-midfielder role for much of this season, Hoger should prove to be a vital loss for Schalke's midfield battle.

Some good news comes in the form of forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who was able to return from the African Cup of Nations and make it in time for the game against Hannover. With Huntelaar now out of contention for the foreseeable future, the Cameroonian international will undoubtedly become even more vital to any attacking intent from Schalke on Tuesday.

Prediction

Although Schalke have looked strong when travelling to Munich of late and are actually–quite bizarrely—the in-form team between the two at the moment, it just seems far too unlikely to see Bayern notch up another defeat.

In truth it seems as though all Wolfsburg really accomplished was getting the Bavarian giants angry and that frustration may indeed be unleashed on Schalke on Tuesday night.

Without Huntelaar, Schalke look blunt in attack and so a strong Bayern win whilst keeping a clean sheet looks likely.

Final score: Bayern Munich 2-0 Schalke
