Big Game Breakdown
Just hours away from the biggest sporting event in the country, no one is completely sure exactly what will happen. After last season's blowout of the Denver Broncos, the Seahawks are a team capable of taking down any franchise. Meanwhile, New England is simply trying to prove its dynasty is still alive and well.
There are physical freaks on both sides, but none more powerful than Marshawn Lynch. Beast Mode has made a mockery of the week leading up to the Super Bowl with his antics, but his game speaks volumes.
Lynch has been the catalyst for the Seahawks offense all season. That was no more apparent than in the NFC Championship Game, where he tallied 183 total yards and touchdown in the comeback win. Beast Mode's success comes from his powerful style of rushing, as Pro Football Focus notes:
Those who thought this game might be his last with the Seahawks might be sorely disappointed. Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports the team is looking to offer Lynch a contract extension this offseason. Expect him to run with confidence for a team that really needs him to clear a path against the Patriots.
On the other side stands Rob Gronkowski. Not only did the two play Mortal Kombat X together on Conan, but they also share the title of the best offensive weapon for their respective teams.
While Gronk might be one of the most physically imposing tight ends in the league, the Seahawks still poked the bear. Cornerback Jeremy Lane shared his thoughts on Gronkowski prior to Sunday.
"I actually don't think he's that good," Lane said, via Terry Blount of ESPN.com. "He's OK. He does have a big body. But from what I've seen on tape, he doesn't like you putting your hands on him. So if we put our hands on him and shake him up a little bit, he won't catch that many balls."
Maybe he should have kept those thoughts to himself? That's not the smartest idea in the world. After all, this is the same Seattle team that surrendered 11 touchdowns to tight ends alone during the regular season.
With an annoyed Gronk and motivated Lynch on the field at the same time, Glendale, Arizona might not be big enough for both of them. That's what makes the Super Bowl the biggest game of the year. The personalities are great, but the game itself is even better.
