Did a B/R "Nero" Dribble While Other Stuff Loses Ground
Did you say the Sports and STEM tag makes no sense to you? Well, do this for me, right now:
Shutdown your computer and turn off your digital television which gives you access to sports telecasts or broadcasts.
It is science, technology, engineering and mathematics that help to design the internet. If you don’t like STEM, then you don’t like the infrastructure and technology of the Bleacher Report.

A lot goes on behind the scenes.
If you take a peek, you realize it is brought to you by the STEM professions. Yes, the creative content comes from the B/R writers.
We are in this game together! STEM needs us and we need STEM, at various levels.
Let’s keep it simple. No one wants to “cut off his nose to spite his face.” Seeing connections would help us understand the interdependency of the codes. A very simple flow chart is shown:
alphabetic language (about sports) being transformed to electronic signals-->transmitted and housed in technological hardware-->then transformed back-->eventually, to alphabetic language (again, about sports)-->you, then, gaze at and decipher the alphabetic language on your computer.
Don't even think about getting into an "attack mode." I told you it is very simplified. As one person said, in a movie, I believe, "Break it down to me like I am in the first grade."
Sure, it is a privilege and an honor to be a consumer of the wonderful internet which provides your NFL, NBA, MLA and other sports programs to you. However, as a West Point professor once said to me, "We need to not only be consumers of math and technology, we need to learn how to be creative in those arenas."
It would be even more forward thinking if more people engaged in understanding the science, technology, engineering and mathematics used to create and maintain the internet.
There is definitely a dependency on STEM to bring your favorite sports events to your blackberry, Netbook, or whatever you use to view the games or to get updates.
There was a time in our nation that no special Olympics existed. A woman who recently passed away started the concept. Her work extended the Olympics from the very capable young people to the arenas of physically or emotionally challenged people. Her approach expanded the scope of involvement in the Olympics.
Similarly, we want to expand the scope of discussion in the Bleacher Report Community. For example, if the content of B/R articles varies from kindergarten to grade 12, it would be forward thinking to extend to higher levels to assure opportunities for interest and enjoyment by folks at all levels.
Lots of money is being spent to research the needs of young people. Some say we are falling behind in educational and research accomplishments in some communities in America.
We don't want to look back someday and hear a phrase, "Nero dribbled while we lose ground." Well, the old quote is really "Nero fiddled while Rome burned down." =)
Furthermore, we don't want to "cut off our nose to spite our face."
We are in a community of forward thinking writers. So, we will dribble, and fiddle, but we will do what is right for the times...We seek to include all audiences, from K-12 grade, and far above, even to the Ph.D., if those persons seek to join us, as we enjoy sports.
