NBA All-Star Rosters 2015: Voting Results, Player Comments and More
The NBA All-Star lineups have been announced, and it is difficult to have too many issues with the full selections.
Sure, there were a few players in each conference who earned the nod due to stardom and career success rather than what they have done this season. However, the remainder of the competitors should feel proud to represent their teams in New York City.
As Lang Whitaker of NBA.com points out, you can only blame the coaches, who were responsible for the voting for reserves:
"While the willing can argue around most of the selections, it’s worth remembering that the All-Star reserves were selected by opposing coaches. So those who made the cut were probably chosen as some vague combination of mutual respect, lifetime achievement and time spent worrying about playing against them.
"
Here is a look at the voting for each conference and a breakdown of what the league thinks about the rosters.
Eastern Conference
| FC | Pau Gasol | Chicago Bulls |
| FC | LeBron James | Cleveland Cavaliers |
| FC | Carmelo Anthony | New York Knicks |
| BC | John Wall | Washington Wizards |
| BC | Kyle Lowry | Toronto Raptors |
| FC | Paul Millsap | Atlanta Hawks |
| FC | Al Horford | Atlanta Hawks |
| FC | Chris Bosh | Miami Heat |
| BC | Kyrie Irving | Cleveland Cavaliers |
| BC | Jimmy Butler | Chicago Bulls |
| BC | Dwyane Wade | Miami Heat |
| BC | Jeff Teague | Atlanta Hawks |
The big story here is the presence of three Atlanta Hawks players in Al Horford, Paul Millsap and Jeff Teague.
Considering the squad has the best record in the conference, this type of representation is certainly deserved. Meanwhile, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports notes that the team isn't necessarily finished:
In the meantime, Horford is happy to be there, via Cory McCartney of Fox Sports South: "I feel honored to represent the Hawks and the city of Atlanta again. I want to give credit to our coaches and my teammates, as I know I wouldn't be in this position without their support. I look forward to enjoying the time in New York and being a part of All-Star (Weekend)."
As for Dwyane Wade, he is certainly happy to be a part of this game whether he is healthy or not, as he posted to Instagram with the caption, "Congrats to this young fella on making his 11th AllStar game in 12 yrs...Also a big thanks to our coaches for knowing the impact that each player makes on the game!!!...see you guys in #NYC":
Among other interesting selections in the East, Kyrie Irving joins LeBron James as representatives from the Cleveland Cavaliers. James is proud of his teammate:
Another easy selection for coaches was Jimmy Butler, who will make his first appearance in the All-Star Game but definitely deserves it with an average of over 20 points per game to go with great defense. Rookie Kyle Anderson finds solidarity with the Chicago Bulls star based on draft location:
Outside of maybe Brandon Knight and Nikola Vucevic, it's hard to come up with any real snubs in the East through this point in the year.
Western Conference
| FC | Marc Gasol | Memphis Grizzlies |
| FC | Anthony Davis | New Orleans Pelicans |
| FC | Blake Griffin | Los Angeles Clippers |
| BC | Kobe Bryant | Los Angeles Lakers |
| BC | Stephen Curry | Golden State Warriors |
| FC | LaMarcus Aldridge | Portland Trail Blazers |
| FC | Kevin Durant | Oklahoma City Thunder |
| FC | Tim Duncan | San Antonio Spurs |
| BC | Klay Thompson | Golden State Warriors |
| BC | James Harden | Houston Rockets |
| BC | Chris Paul | Los Angeles Clippers |
| BC | Russell Westbrook | Oklahoma City Thunder |
Some of the more surprising selections in the Western Conference were really the most notable names.
Kevin Durant has played in only 21 games this season, averaging 25.6 points per game. This would be his lowest point total since his second year in the league.
Despite this fact, the coaches voted him as one of the reserves in the West. Interestingly, Durant wasn't too concerned about getting a spot:
On the other hand, possible snub Damian Lillard almost expected this type of result:
DeMarcus Cousins is another person who could be considered a snub as one of the more dominant centers in the NBA. However, he remained calm when asked about the possibility of being voted onto the All-Star team.
"To be totally honest, it is what it is," Cousins said, per Antonio Gonzalez of The Associated Press, via NBA.com. "If I make it, I make it. If I don't, I don't."
One person who will receive very little argument about his inclusion is James Harden, who many will argue should be starting in this game. Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle isn't someone who will complain after his high praise following his game against the Houston Rockets:
Klay Thompson is also well-deserving of a spot, a result that led to excitement from "Splash Brother" Stephen Curry:
In reality, it seems like the only person who wasn't happy about being selected to the All-Star Game is Tim Duncan, via Dan McCarney of the San Antonio Express-News:
I'm sure Cousins or Lillard would be happy to take his spot, but the future Hall of Famer will probably suit up anyway for his 13th appearance in the classic game.
