Dwyer was arrested in September for an altercation in July with his wife and was accused of head-butting her "after she refused his sexual advances," breaking her nose, per Kody Acevedo of AZCentral.com. Dwyer refuted the claims.
He was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list by the Arizona Cardinals in September, ending his 2014 season, and is now a free agent.
It remains to be seen what discipline the NFL will hand down to Dwyer after his guilty plea. He appeared in just two games for the Cardinals this season, playing a complementary role to starting back Andre Ellington after spending four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He signed a one-year deal with Arizona over the summer.
It also remains to be seen if another NFL team will be willing to sign him. Given the disappointing level of domestic abuse cases involving NFL players this season, teams may be unwilling to align themselves with a player who entered a guilty plea in such a case.
