Miami Heat's Danny Granger Makes 1,000th 3-Pointer of Career
Miami Heat forward/guard Danny Granger recorded the 1,000th three-point field goal of his career in the first quarter of Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks, per the team's official Twitter account.
Granger added two more three-pointers before the close of the first quarter but failed to hit any more throughout the remainder of the game. He finished with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal in just over 36 minutes.
The Heat lost the game by a score of 109-102, but Granger was not to blame. When he was on the floor, Miami outscored the Bucks, and ESPN.com's box score indicates he was the only Heat player for whom that was the case.
While reaching 1,000 career three-pointers may not be overly impressive—63 players have reached the total since Dale Ellis in the 1993-94 season—Granger is just one of 28 to do so while shooting above 38 percent from behind the arc.
Among players who have reached the milestone, Granger is one of 28 considered active to accomplish the feat, though nine of the players on the active leaderboard haven't played in a game this season.
Most of Granger's damage came in his eight-plus years with the Indiana Pacers (964 of 1,002), but he knocked home another 12 with the Los Angeles Clippers in 12 games last season and has added 26 more in 24 games for the Heat this season.
Of course, Granger's minutes have seen a sharp decrease over the past few seasons, as the former All-Star had his career slowed by injuries.
After averaging 33.3 minutes with the Pacers in 2011-12, he played just five games in 2012-13 and then averaged just 20.7 minutes in 2013-14 between the Pacers and Clippers.
The 31-year-old is averaging a modest 21.2 minutes with Miami this season, and for good reason.
According to ESPN.com, Granger has a career-low player efficiency rating (excluding 2012-13) of 9.29, placing him 53rd out of 67 qualified small forwards.
Still, three-point shooting is among the most desirable qualities for an aging player, displayed by the fact that teams are still attempting to sign the 39-year-old Ray Allen.
If Granger can bump his efficiency numbers up a bit while staying healthy, he should stick with the Heat all season.
