Super Bowl Odds 2015: Vegas Prop Bets and Odds List for Patriots vs. Seahawks

Rob GoldbergJan 27, 2015

Those looking to make money on the Super Bowl often have to go deeper than just the point spread.

According to Odds Shark, the New England Patriots are currently favored by one point over the Seattle Seahawks with the over/under listed at 47.5; however, the popularity of the big game allows fans to bet on anything from the coin toss to the color of the Gatorade bath for the winning team.

While giving advice on these luck-filled propositions wouldn't really benefit anyone, it's smarter to focus on the bets with reasoning behind it.

Vegas Insider provides a long list of possibilities for game-day bets, but here is a look at the top picks to help you bring in some cash during the Super Bowl.

Tom Brady Total Pass Attempts: Over 36.5 (-110), Under 36.5 (-110)

Although the number of Tom Brady's pass attempts often fluctuates greatly from game to game, the veteran quarterback has thrown the ball a lot more since the start of the season.

After the 2-2 start to the year, Brady is averaging 39.5 pass attempts per game while going 12-1 down the stretch (not counting Week 17 when the Patriots rested their starters in the second half). Even when the run game is working, New England puts the ball in the hands of the future Hall of Famer when the game is on the line.

Against a great defense like the Seattle Seahawks, the Patriots will have to rely on the elite quarterback to make the right decision with the football and spread it around to find the open man.

Seattle safety Earl Thomas showed his respect for Brady earlier in the week, per Terry Blount of ESPN.com, saying, “Tom understands the game so well. His pocket presence is smooth. He doesn’t predetermine too much. He kind of flows with the game and that is why he has been so great. They are definitely dangerous."

If the Patriots are going to win this game, it will have to be the quarterback who gets it done.

Of course, even if New England does struggle, the passing game will likely be very prominent. Remember, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning threw the ball 49 times in a blowout loss in the Super Bowl last year. This makes it seem likely Brady will have a lot of attempts in this one regardless of the outcome.

Pick: Over

Will Brandon LaFell Score a Touchdown?: Yes (+190), No (-220)

FOXBORO, MA - JANUARY 10: Brandon LaFell #19 of the New England Patriots catches a touchdown pass during the fourth quarter of the 2015 AFC Divisional Playoffs game against the Baltimore Ravens at Gillette Stadium on January 10, 2015 in Foxboro, Massachu

Not counting tight end Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots' receiving corps is certainly on the small side. Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola play major roles each week and usually excel in getting open, but they are likely to struggle against a physical Seahawks secondary.

Richard Sherman and Co. might get away with a lot of pushing and shoving down the field, but they are effective as they come with the No. 1 pass defense in the NFL.

This is where Brandon LaFell comes in as a receiver who can actually match up with Seattle in this respect. Brady had a lot of great things to say about the young receiver's physicality recently, per Ben Volin of The Boston Globe:

LaFell has eight touchdowns this year, including his impressive catch on the go-ahead score against the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round of the playoffs. With the Seahawks likely to put a lot of energy into stopping Gronkowski, this will give LaFell a better chance of getting open in the end zone.

A score is far from a certainty, but this bet is a great value at almost 2-1 odds.

Pick: Yes

Marshawn Lynch Total Rushing Yards: Over 82.5 (-110), Under 82.5 (-110)

It's rare to find a running back that can be considered as clutch as Marshawn Lynch. In a position in which players are usually known for their consistency, the Seattle star has a knack for saving his biggest moments for when they are needed the most.

In nine career playoff games, Lynch has topped 100 yards on five different occasions, including his 157 rushing yards in a comeback effort last week against the Green Bay Packers. This latest showing might be the most telling, because it showed the Seahawks were not afraid to stick with the run even in a deficit.

Rich Hill of Pats Pulpit showed how Seattle differs from the rest of the league in this category:

Although Lynch has had some quiet performances, he is averaging 97.3 rushing yards over his last 10 games. Even though the Patriots have fared relatively well against the run this year, players like Justin Forsett (24 carries for 129 yards) have shown the ability to post big numbers against this defense for teams willing to stick with the run.

With Seattle having the No. 1 rushing attack in the NFL this year, you can be certain it will do its best to get Lynch the ball and allow him to carry the offense in the Super Bowl.

Pick: Over
