Atletico Madrid vs. Barcelona: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Gianni VerschuerenJan 27, 2015

Atletico Madrid will host Barcelona at the Vicente Calderon on Wednesday, January 28 at 8 p.m. GMT for the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final, looking to overcome the one-goal deficit from last week's 1-0 loss at the Camp Nou.

The Atleti have one of Europe's best home reputations but face a Blaugrana squad high on confidence following a number of impressive wins, setting the table for an epic second leg that will determine who will enter the semi-finals as the strong favourites for the cup.

The Catalans field one of Europe's most feared group of forwards—Atletico boast arguably the best defense in all of football. Wednesday's clash should be another battle for the ages between two of the heavyweights of Spanish football.

Barcelona's 6-0 destruction of Elche during the weekend all but ended the crisis talks that appeared to engulf the team late December, as the Catalans dominated the match from start to finish to win their third straight in La Liga.

The Blaugrana have scored 13 goals in those three matches combined and conceded just once—at home against the Atleti. Lionel Messi and Neymar continue to find the goal with incredible consistency, with the former taking his scoring record to incredible heights against Elche, via Football Funnys:

Atletico have a handful of lethal scorers of their own, and none is currently in better form than Antoine Griezmann. The France international found the net twice in the defending La Liga champions' 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano, and he should have had a hat-trick, with Fernando Torres passing up the opportunity to provide him with a sitter in an empty goal.

The young winger took a few months to adapt to his new club following a summer move from Real Sociedad, but he's been lights out for the past few weeks. Whitehouse Address thinks the Calderon is arguably the best place for him to hone his skills:

The hosts will need the 23-year-old to be at his very best—according to WhoScored.com, the Blaugrana have conceded just nine goals in all of La Liga this season.

The Catalans are slight favourites coming into the match, and rightly so, but Tiago told reporters he and his team-mates don't fear their opponents in the slightest, via Goal:

With only minor injury concerns for either squad, both managers should be able to field strong starting XI's. Atletico are dangerous on the counter-attack, but with Barcelona defending a lead, they'll likely be forced to play a slightly more open game than they usually like.

This will give the visitors the opportunity to launch a few counter-attacks of their own, although they'll likely favour possession over defending, thus staying true to their identity. A one-goal lead means very little over the course of 90 minutes—scoring that pivotal away goal would be far more important.

Expect plenty of attacking intention from some of the world's most in-form forwards, and more goals than just the one we saw at the Camp Nou.

Final prediction: Atletico Madrid 2-1 Barcelona (Barcelona advance on away goals, 2-2).
