Real Madrid Transfer News: Martin Odegaard Issues Arise, Latest on Lucas Silva
Sergio Aguza, captain of Real Madrid Castilla, is envious of Los Blancos' decision to pay Norwegian youngster Martin Odegaard so handsomely from the off.
Odegaard was unveiled to the Spanish press on Thursday after signing from Stromsgodset. His contract is reportedly worth £80,000 per week, per The Associated Press (h/t Daily Mail), despite the fact the player is unlikely to appear in Madrid's senior side any time soon.
Aguza, who also joined Madrid at the age of 16 in 2008, continues to develop in the side's youth ranks. He isn't surprised by the cost of Odegaard's wages, but he wishes to have received a similar opportunity, as reported by Carlos Forjanes of AS:

"It’s not that it bothers me…but I’d like to have the chance to earn what they say that the Norwegian is going to earn. The club does its job and in the end each player needs to do his individual bit to secure collective objectives.
"
Odegaard's playing style has forced many to suggest he will develop into a true great, similar to the style of Messi. Although complimentary of his attitude, former Norway international Jan Aage Fjortoft has warned against comparisons to such a player, per Christoph Kockeis of Goal.com:
"Comparing Odegaard to Messi is nonsense from the media. Messi is a player who can make the difference and Martin can do the same, but any comparisons should not be taken seriously.
[...] Martin is only 16 years old and he should be allowed to behave like someone of his age. He should be able to develop gradually and one step at a time.
"
Madrid continue to fill their youth setup with quality. Recent signing Lucas Silva, who is far more suited to contributing to the first team at the age of 21, was unveiled to the local media on Monday. The club's official Twitter account reported his medical, while Nicholas Rigg of AS provided a quote from the player's welcome:
Reports suggest the club are also ready to lure Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte to the capital. However, Jose Vicente Hernaez of Marca indicates the Basque club "do not want to enter into negotiations" for a player whose release clause currently stands at €42 million.
The French centre-back continues to impress at the San Mames and is likely to accrue a major fee from one of Europe's top clubs before too long. You can see his quality below:
Madrid have placed an emphasis on snapping up quality youth this season. The main squad is set for years to come, so this is the perfect time for Carlo Ancelotti and his colleagues to maximise the quality of Madrid's younger teams.
Signings such as Odegaard could save the club plenty of cash further down the line. The European champions are certainly willing to take risks with this method, but they are likely to uncover a handful of gems if they continue to spend big on developing talent.
