Cristiano Ronaldo Handed 2-Match Ban, Available for Atletico Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a two-match ban after being sent off during Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Cordoba on Saturday. The Portuguese star will therefore be available for Los Blancos' vital trip to face neighbours Atletico Madrid on Feb. 7.
Spanish newspaper AS reported the news on Wednesday:

Bleacher Report's Matteo Bonetti discusses the fairness of the suspension:
Referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez dismissed Ronaldo for kicking Edimar Fraga during Saturday's match but vitally failed to address CR7's slap on Jose Crespo in his match report. This means the 2014 Ballon d'Or winner escaped without a violent-conduct charge and can now prepare for one of his side's toughest matches of the campaign.

Ronaldo will miss home ties against Real Sociedad and Sevilla. He expressed regret after receiving an early shower, reported by Sky Sports: "I apologise to everyone and especially to Edimar for my thoughtless act in today's game."
The 29-year-old has been in fine form this season, scoring 34 goals and providing 10 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions, per WhoScored.com. He has netted four in six displays since the winter break and continues to play a vital role in Madrid leading La Liga by one point (with a game in hand).

Ronaldo does have a history of getting sent off after becoming irritated. His latest discretion is the ninth of his career, which includes two dismissals during the Manchester derby, not to mention another during the 2013 Copa del Rey final against Atletico. He now has five red cards in Spain.
Carlo Ancelotti possesses enough firepower to ensure his side can cope in Ronaldo's absence. Gareth Bale scored the winner against Cordoba and will be expected to perform in the absence of Madrid's most important player. Jese Rodriguez may also receive an extended run in the side, while the somewhat forgotten Javier Hernandez could aid Karim Benzema's output in a slight change of style.

Ronaldo will be itching to return to top form when his ban concludes. He made a number of questionable decisions before eventually receiving his marching orders, but a wounded Ronaldo is a dangerous prospect for the rest of La Liga.
