Super Bowl 2015: Date, Media Day Schedule for Patriots vs. Seahawks

Steven CookJan 25, 2015

No American sporting event's anticipation level touches that of the Super Bowl, and nothing showcases that more than the frenzy that is Super Bowl media day.

Having made it out of their respective conferences and into the big game, the biggest test of the season is coming up for the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks, but Tuesday presents a different type of challenge for players who will be peppered with all sorts of questions. There will be serious inquiries about the game, random hypotheticals and everything in between.

What used to be a simple opportunity for select media members to interview players before the game has snowballed into a central part of any Super Bowl. Not only will thousands of credentialed media be in attendance, but fans also have the opportunity to purchase tickets and sit in the stadium, per NFL.com.

Super Bowl XLIX Preview

There might be one or two things to talk about come Super Bowl media day.

Of course, that tends to be the case heading into any Super Bowl. But it wouldn't be premature to suggest that the talking points at this year's media event will be among the most interesting—not to mention awkward—in history.

Most conversation will involve the increasingly sticky ball-deflating scandal to hit the Patriots, who have had to address the issue more than once in the last week.

After head coach Bill Belichick came out Saturday harder than ever in response to his critics, however, you can bet the Patriots will be ready to move on from talking about the issue, as The Associated Press shared:

So with that out of the way, can we talk some actual football?

That should also be on the docket, with one of the most intriguing Super Bowls of recent memory in many respects about to unfold. The Patriots look to further lock down their team's legacy, while the Seahawks hope to overcome them as the best team of this millennium.

The defense is strength No. 1 for Seattle, but its group received some setbacks in the NFC Championship Game when Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas III both went down. Their statuses for the Super Bowl, however, aren't in question, according to the Seahawks' team Twitter:

The Seahawks didn't have much trouble setting the tone defensively in last year's Super Bowl victory over the Broncos, but it will be a different challenge to notch a repeat performance come Feb 1. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been on fire, having thrown six touchdown passes and running for another in New England's two playoff wins.

The matchup on that side of the field alone will be worth focusing on, but how Seattle's own offensive attack fares against New England could prove to be even more crucial.

Nobody rushed the ball better than the Seahawks in 2014, leading the NFL in yards amassed per game on the ground. But continuing that dominance against a Patriots front that ranked ninth in limiting the run will be easier said than done.

With matchups on either end of the field to salivate over and a number of storylines that assuredly won't go away no matter what, Super Bowl media day promises to bring plenty of excitement even without a single football being thrown.
