Super Bowl Odds 2015: Betting Lines, Over/Under, Props for Patriots vs. Seahawks

Chris RolingJan 25, 2015

Idina Menzel and Katy Perry make for some interesting betting opportunities next weekend.

There is also a football game on February 1.

In all seriousness, Super Bowl XLIX between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks is an encounter for the ages. Russell Wilson stands a chance at taking down yet another quarterback who ranks among the all-time greats, while the head coaching duel is perhaps the best ever seen on such a stage.

What will Russell Wilson do first? Throw a TD Pass (1-2), Throw an Interception (8-5)

The knee-jerk reaction is to think that Wilson will stumble in the spotlight and make a few early mistakes.

After all, he tossed four interceptions last week and now faces a Patriots defense led by Darrelle Revis.

There are a few key things to remember, though. Wilson bounced back from his struggles last week in the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers and threw the game-winning touchdown in overtime.

There is something to be said for momentum gained from that and the extra time to prepare for the New England defense. You can also think back to Wilson's performance in the Super Bowl last year against the Denver Broncos, when he posted an 18-of-25 mark for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

Wilson generally takes great care of the football. If he has the chance to ride his defense and elite ground game as he did against the Broncos, the passing decisions will be swift and safe.

While he will not come out gunning by any means, Wilson will throw a touchdown before an interception. Try not to panic either—Wilson did not get on the board in last year's Super Bowl in any manner until late in the third quarter.

Total rushing yards: Marshawn Lynch Over/Under 92.5

Too easy.

Marshawn Lynch only broke the 92.5-yard mark on six occasions this year, including against the Packers.

Those performances, though, mostly came when the staff decided to give him more than 20 carries, something that is sure to happen against the Patriots as Pete Carroll and his staff look to keep a Tom Brady-led offense off the field.

The same logic applied as Wilson struggled in the NFC title game, the result being a smooth 157 yards and a score on 25 attempts.

New England's defense struggles against bigger backs at times. Green Bay's Eddie Lacy ran for 98 yards on just 21 attempts against the unit earlier this year. Kansas City's Knile Davis ran for 107 on just 16.

Lynch is more physical than both. Just ask Denver Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware, as captured by CBS Sports' Pete Prisco:

"

When he comes at you, it's almost like he's saying this is my train track, and I am going down this train track, and whatever is in front of me I am going to run it over. And that's how he does it. You usually don't knock him off the train track. He keeps going. You just have to slow him down.

"

The Seahawks will not turn away from their best player, especially not after he single-handedly saved the team on the way to this point.

Look for Lynch to surpass the allotted amount—and then some.

Total rushing yards: LeGarrette Blount Over/Under 62.5

SEATTLE, WA - JANUARY 18: Russell Wilson #3 of the Seattle Seahawks celebrates as Letroy Guion #98 of the Green Bay Packers is in anguish after Wilson threw a game winning touchdown pass in overtime of the 2015 NFC Championship game at CenturyLink Field o

The question when it comes to Patriots back LeGarrette Blount is not so much whether or not he will surpass 62.5 yards. He will if given the opportunity.

With Bill Belichick, though, it is impossible to be certain.

One has to figure Blount will be a fixture of New England's attack. He's Lynch on the AFC side of things minus the Skittles and controversy. He too is a bowling ball who seems to get a guaranteed amount of yards on each carry, as Pro Football on ESPN illustrates:

Blount carried the ball in the AFC Championship Game 30 times in an effort to keep Andrew Luck off the field and chew clock, the result being 148 yards and three touchdowns.

Seattle does boast an elite rush defense, but Lacy did bang his way to 73 yards while counterpart James Starks broke free for 44 yards on five carries last weekend in Seattle.

Blount will be the lead back again. Jonas Gray is an afterthought, as is any other name on the depth chart at this point. Fresh, physical enough to bowl over the Seahawks and hungry for a ring, bank on Blount surpassing what seems to be a rather low over/under.
