WWE Championship Triple Threat
Regardless of who wins the Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship, it has been built as the PPV’s main event and will likely be the bout that closes the show. Pushing the Royal Rumble out of the top billing increases the pressure on this match tenfold.
Luckily for the WWE Universe, Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Seth Rollins embrace pressure.
For Lesnar, he is a big-game player. Not only was he a huge success with WWE during his first run with the company, but he also went on to be one of the top-drawing UFC fighters in the history of mixed martial arts. If anyone understands how to embrace pressure, it’s Lesnar.
The defending champion will come out with his typically brutal style, but he will get a chance to show off more of his finesse when fighting against Rollins. Just as Lesnar showed in the feud with CM Punk, he can work a more technical style and still be the dominant force WWE needs.
As for Rollins, he brings the air assault. He is one of the most gifted high-flyers on the main roster, and he will be able to pull things off against Lesnar and Cena that many others wouldn’t dream of attempting.
While Cena isn’t very popular with a vocal portion of the WWE Universe, there is no denying his ability to rise to the occasion and put on great matches. If Lesnar and Rollins raise their game to the next level, Cena will do the same.
Add in the possibility of a Money in the Bank cash-in attempt, and there is a case to be made for each participant walking out of Philadelphia as the champion. The unpredictability is only adding to the pressure on this marquee bout.
The Royal Rumble
Whether the 30-man over-the-top-rope Battle Royal headlines the show or not, the most important match on the Royal Rumble card is the PPV’s namesake. With the winner going on to main event WrestleMania, the importance is undeniable.
Each year, the final Superstar left standing earns the right to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of the company’s biggest show. The best part of the 2015 edition thus far has been the unpredictability.
There is an immense amount of pressure on WWE to produce great content during the Royal Rumble, but the company deserves credit for making several wrestlers look like viable candidates to win the match.
It can be reasonably argued that any one of Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler could win the Battle Royal.
The match is also under a huge amount of pressure for more than just picking the correct winner, though, and pacing something as long as the Royal Rumble is key. The creative team must develop an order that keeps the action flowing and ensures several memorable moments throughout the bout.
It can be difficult for the WWE to keep the fans entertained for every moment of a match that could easily go a full hour, but with a raucous Philadelphia crowd ready to explode, officials have the chance to create something truly special.
