Real Madrid Transfer News: David De Gea Deal Reported Amid Jorge Mendes Rumours
David De Gea has reportedly "agreed terms" with Real Madrid ahead of a potential transfer from Manchester United, according to Spanish publication Fichajes (h/t Jamie Sanderson of the Metro).
This suggestion comes after Jose Felix Diaz of Marca reported the Premier League club is yet to offer the goalkeeper a new contract. Madrid are reportedly "willing" to submit a £50 million bid for the Spaniard, according to Jack Wilson of the Daily Star.
Wilson reports a diminishing relationship between United and Jorge Mendes, De Gea's agent, who has allegedly "put De Gea's name to Bernabeu chiefs ahead of a possible summer switch." Wilson also reports a potentially worrying quote from an unspecified source, who told the publication, "De Gea will be at Real Madrid next season."

Mendes recently admitted both he and Radamel Falcao, another of his stars, "don't know what will happen" over the striker's future, reported by Sky Italia (h/t Selene Scarsi of ESPN FC).
This comment came after Louis van Gaal dropped the Colombian from his starting lineup prior to defeat against Southampton, with the Dutch manager later suggesting Mendes' input is "unhelpful" to a situation that could see Falcao move on after his loan spell concludes.
Wilson's article indicates such exchanges have turned the agent's relationship with United "sour," which may impact De Gea's future.

Reports continue to suggest United would cash in on De Gea for a fee of £50 million, noted by Charles Perrin of the Daily Express. Van Gaal recently signed a more experienced replacement in Victor Valdes, who could be set to make his United debut during Friday's FA Cup tie with Cambridge United.
Mendes has been involved with the club for years, previously brokering deals for players including Anderson, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo. It seems unlikely any personal anxiety between him and the club would see De Gea leave, particularly as Wilson reports the player "wants to stay."
United were recently named the second-richest side in football, according to Deloitte's Football Money League, reported by Mike Keegan of the MailOnline. Increased revenue from £363.2 million to £433.2 million means the side doesn't need to sell its stars in order to secure further talent, so Real Madrid would likely need to pay over the odds for De Gea.

Reports continue to link Van Gaal with a move for Gareth Bale. A recent Manchester United Supporters' Trust survey indicated 99 percent of fans would rather have De Gea, per the Press Association (h/t Telegraph Sport). United specialist Musa Okwonga was recently asked to provide his opinion on a potential swap, as reported by ESPN FC:
"David De Gea is perhaps even rarer than Bale: a goalkeeper with genuine greatness in his sights. They only come along once every decade or so. The concerns with Bale are he is reasonably prone to injury, and his game is heavily reliant upon speed, which he will lose over time. In the long run, therefore, De Gea might be able to provide more years of service.
"

De Gea has developed into a key United player across the last two seasons. His shot-stopping ability continues to win the side vital points in its attempt to regain Champions League football. At the end of the season, it will be difficult to pinpoint another individual who has contributed so many match-defining moments for the team.
Mendes is the type of character who is always going to poke and prod to get the best for his clients. United need to tie De Gea down for speculation to stop, however, as the agent is likely want the best Spanish keeper to play for the best Spanish club. De Gea offers a level of quality that doesn't come around too often, making continued rumours particularly irritating for Red Devils followers.
