Quick Breakdown of New England vs. Seattle
There will be interesting battles all over the field in the Super Bowl, but the matchup that will ultimately decide which team walks away victorious will be Tom Brady and the New England offense squaring off with the vaunted Seattle defense.
Mike Greenberg of ESPN shared his excitement for the matchup:
Despite scoring only 26 combined points in the last two games of the regular season, the Patriots have been the hottest offensive team in the playoffs. After racking up 35 points against Baltimore in the divisional round, New England trounced Indianapolis, 45-7.
When asked about what value the footage from the last time the Patriots played the Seahawks in 2012 would have in the preparation for the Super Bowl, New England head coach Bill Belichick spoke honestly with Michael Whitmer of The Boston Globe:
"Sure, I think there’s some value to it. We’ll definitely look at that game, as I’m sure they will. Some things are similar, but it’s a couple years ago and there are a lot of things that have changed. It will be one piece of a big puzzle. We’ll just try to put it all together and see what we can come up with. But yeah, we’ll definitely look at that. It’s relevant.
"
It should be noted that the Patriots defense played well against Andrew Luck and the league’s top-ranked pass attack last week, but they are squaring off with the top defensive unit in the league against Seattle.
Pro Football on ESPN’s official Twitter talked about the defensive dominance of both teams closing out games:
The Seahawks' claim to fame is the defensive unit. While quarterback Russell Wilson has played well in the postseason overall, he is coming off a four-interception game against Green Bay. Luckily, Seattle has the first-ranked pass defense (allowing 185.6 yards per game) and the third-ranked run defense (allowing 81.5 yards per game.)
After giving up just 17 points to Carolina in the second round and 22 points to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in the NFC Championship, the Seahawks are playing like the best defense in the league at the right time.
The Super Bowl will be a true test of the unstoppable force (New England’s offense) meeting the immovable object (Seattle’s defense). The unit that outperforms the other will ultimately lead its team to victory.
Predicted Final Score: New England 27, Seattle 24
