Safest Bet: Over 48.5 (20-21)

Football fans who are not avid bettors will be looking to make a safe wager on the Super Bowl that is most likely to pay out. For those looking to take an educated risk, bet the over with the total currently set at 48.5 points.

New England comes into this game as one of the hottest offensive teams in the league. After beating the Baltimore Ravens 35-31 in the divisional round and destroying the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game 45-7, there are few teams that could stop an offense with as much momentum as the Patriots.

While Seattle’s first-ranked pass defense (allowing 185.6 yards per game) and third-ranked run defense (allowing 81.5 yards per game) will provide a serious test for the Patriots, Tom Brady and company will be able to rack up even more points than Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers did in the NFC Championship Game.

With the game basically a pick ‘em bet, RJ Bell of Pregame.com talked about the history of danger betting against the spread:

On the other side of the ball for the Seahawks, the offensive unit has been strong behind the running attack of Marshawn Lynch. Seattle finished the regular season ranked first in rushing yards per game (172.6), but many are concerned about the struggles of quarterback Russell Wilson against Green Bay.

The talented young signal-caller threw four interceptions on the day and didn’t look like a player who could lead his team to a Super Bowl victory. If it wasn’t for the defensive prowess of the Seahawks, the team wouldn’t even be in this position.

The Patriots defensive unit wasn’t one of the team’s biggest strengths during the season, but there are several gifted players on the team, including cornerback Darrelle Revis and tackle Vince Wilfork. After watching Baltimore rack up 31 points, though, Wilson and Seattle should be able to find openings against the New England defenders.

Both the Patriots and the Seahawks advanced to the Super Bowl using the game plan that made them successful, and each will be looking to execute them one more time. As close as the game will be on the scoreboard, New England should be able to steal the win.

Bet the over with confidence.

Predicted Final Score: New England 27, Seattle 24
