What to Expect from Rookie Andrew Wiggins in the 2015 NBA Slam Dunk Contest

If there's one thing about Andrew Wiggins that the analytics crowd can't hate on, it's his insane athleticism, which will reportedly be on display at the 2015 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, although the NBA has not yet confirmed that.

Hoops Hype Canada broke the news about the 19-year-old rookie on Twitter:

So what exactly can we expect from Wiggins in his first appearance in the dunk contest? Well, he's given us plenty of clues already.

Wiggins' slender frame may lead you to believe he's a finesse dunker, but he actually throws down a lot of jams with some ferociousness.

Take a look at that one from the NBA Summer League from a different angle. The way he gathers during the spin move is impressive. Not many people can explode out of that motion the way he does.

When he has more time and space to operate, like he did at the 2013 McDonald's All-American Dunk Contest, he's capable of some amazing displays of athleticism and agility.

Tons of people can dunk, but the coordination and hang time required to pull off a between-the-legs 360 while spinning away from the rim is reserved for a few special people.

Speaking of hang time, take a look at where Wiggins' head is on this alley-oop from Ricky Rubio during the Minnesota Timberwolves' "Dunks After Dark" event.

You can just hear Kenny Smith going crazy over that elevation right now. "His chin was at the rim!"

Imagine the reactions to this one with all the fanfare of the dunk contest instead of a warm-up before a summer-league game.

With a little more emphasis on the finish, that dunk, which looks effortless for Wiggins, will draw some 10s from the judges.

He might even inspire LeBron James to think about joining the competition one day. He's gotten King James out of his seat before.

With all the highlights Wiggins has given us already, it might be easy to think he has nothing left to reveal. But I'm guessing he's been dreaming of this moment for a while, and he might've saved his very best for the bright lights in Madison Square Garden.
