Key Matchup: Marshawn Lynch vs. Green Bay’s Front Seven
The most intriguing matchup to watch in the Seattle and Green Bay game is the war that will rage throughout between Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch and the Packers' defensive front seven.
Seattle finished the season ranked first in rushing yards per game (172.6), and that was due largely to the success of Lynch. He racked up 17 total touchdowns (13 rushing and four receiving) and a total of 1,673 all-purpose yards.
Add in Lynch’s five 100-plus-yard rushing performances, and there is no doubt that the Packers will have their hands full stopping the Seahawks' elite rushing attack.
When asked about what makes Lynch so dangerous, Green Bay running back Eddie Lacy shared his insight with Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, saying, “He's a great back—powerful, strong. But that's not my concern. I don't have to tackle him."
ESPN’s Jason Whitlock also dumped immense praise on Lynch:
The Packers may be overmatched against Lynch, but they were last week as well against the Dallas Cowboys and DeMarco Murray. While the league’s top running back managed to rack up 123 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries, the defense slowed him down just enough to allow Green Bay to steal the victory.
If the Packers want to beat Seattle on the road, they’re going to have to stop Lynch.
Moving pass-rushing outside linebacker Clay Matthews to the inside has been a success, but the entire defensive unit will have to focus on making fundamental tackles against one of the most physical runners in the league.
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offensive unit will also have a major say in how the final score shakes out, but if the defensive unit can’t stop Lynch, the Packers will be playing from behind all day.
Predicted Final Score: Seattle 27, Green Bay 24
