WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from January 13
Welcome to Bleacher Report's recap of this week's Main Event. Here is where we take a look at what happened on the show, examining the winners, reactions to matches and any possible ramifications coming out of the program.
It was a pretty average show from top to bottom. One of those episodes that you could easily skip and not miss anything important.
There were two squash matches, a tag team contest and a six-man tag match to cap off everything. Let's not waste anymore time and get right into what happened on this week's Main Event.

Gold and Stardust vs. Los Matadores
Gold and Stardust continued to be booked far below their capabilities by losing to Los Matadores...again. It wasn't a bad match, but it felt like something we have seen many times before.
This is the problem WWE has when it keeps the tag team division small. With only a handful of teams and multiple weekly shows, they all end up facing each other numerous times in a short period.
Why one of the teams with the best skills is losing to a comedy act is a bit of a head-scratcher. If they were building toward a breakup, that would be one thing, but it doesn't seem like Goldust and Stardust have any issues.
This wasn't a terrible way to kick off the show, but it certainly didn't get us off to a great start.
Winners: Los Matadores
Grade: B-
Notes and Highlights
- Los Matadores no longer do the entrance where the bull runs through their capes.
- El Torito's tail fell off when Goldust knocked him off the apron.
- One of the Matadores almost lost his mask at one point. It's surprising it doesn't happen more often with the half masks they wear.

The Ascension vs. Jobbers
Konnor and Viktor came back for another easy win, this time over two guys who looked like miniature versions of James Storm and Ernest Miller.
Just like their previous matches, The Ascension's opponents didn't even get a chance to make a tag. JBL continued to criticize the team for facing small, unknown talents who clearly have no chance of winning.
The fact that an announcer has repeatedly brought this up might be a sign that some kind of storyline will come of it, but it's more likely that they are just going through their introduction period facing jobbers like many do.
Winners: The Ascension
Grade: D
Notes and Highlights
- Did you notice how the ref basically stopped counting when Konnor and Viktor were setting up for their finishing move?
- What is it about the colors black and red that seem demonic? Numerous evil wrestlers have used that color scheme over the years.
- The promo before the match was more of the same of what we have heard from The Ascension ever since they debuted, but they did acknowledge the criticisms they have received.
Twitter Reaction
Rusev vs. Justin Gabriel
One squash match after another. Justin Gabriel might have hit a few moves, but this was all about Rusev looking dominant.
There isn't much more that can be said about what we saw other than both men looked proficient. No mistakes were made, and everything flowed like it was supposed to.
Winner: Rusev
Grade: C-
Notes and Highlights
- Wasn't Gabriel a heel lumberjack on Raw? Why is he a babyface all of a sudden?
- Gabriel stole the bottom half of La Parka's outfit.
- They should just put Gabriel back with Heath Slater. At least it would give both of them something to do, even if they were losing every week.
- WWE didn't upload this match, so instead you get to watch Randy Savage's Hall of Fame video package.

The New Day vs. Adam Rose, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro
How can so many talented wrestlers be in one match that is so average? Really, I want to know how this happened.
Tyson Kidd, Cesaro, Big E and Kofi Kingston are all gifted wrestlers stuck in a rut. Adam Rose and Xavier Woods are good, but we haven't seen them have a show-stopping performance yet.
Kidd and Cesaro showed off some of the chemistry they've developed with some combos that looked really good, but they couldn't carry the whole match by themselves.
However, nobody looked bad, which is sometimes the best you can hope for. While it wasn't anything special, this ended up being the best match of the evening.
The last few moments where everyone started coming in the ring and hitting their big moves looked pretty good. There's a lot of moving parts to a bout like this, but these guys made it look easy.
Winners: The New Day
Grade: B
Notes and Highlights
- The spot where everyone in The New Day took out someone outside the ring at the same time was really impressive.
- This might have been the best showing Kingston, Woods and Big E have had to date as a team.
- So who is feuding here? Why is Rose aligned with Kidd and Cesaro? Why does Big E sweat so much? There's so many unanswered questions.

"Cesaro, Tyson Kidd and Adam Rose. That doesn't look or sound right #MainEvent
