Super Bowl 2015: Team Predictions and Latest AFC, NFC Vegas Odds

Steven CookJan 13, 2015

A trip to Super Bowl XLIX has been nothing more than a mirage to 32 NFL teams throughout the last few months, but that goal is becoming more and more tangible for four peaking clubs.

After stepping up to the task in the divisional round, the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers are the only ones left standing.

With three of the four coming off first-round byes and 12-win seasons, it's no surprise to see the odds spread out—although an obvious favorite has emerged.

Super Bowl Prediction: Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots

A Super Bowl matchup between the top two seeds in both conferences is something not regularly seen in today's parity-driven NFL, but we're destined to see it a second straight year come February 1.

Last season's matchup between the Seahawks and Broncos produced just the third battle of No. 1 seeds in the Super Bowl for the last 20 years. Despite the rarity of it all, the end result didn't surprise anyone who watched both teams on a collision course with one another down the stretch of the season.

In 2014 and now 2015, it's the New England Patriots on a collision course with those same old Seahawks.

Fate seemed to deter the Patriots to another distasteful postseason loss at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, but a revamped New England squad showed major strides from the teams that came up short over the last near-decade.

The Patriots overcame a pair of 14-point deficits, Tom Brady showed his mastery and the defense tightened up when it needed to.

They'll go up against a surging Colts defense that just dominated Peyton Manning, but Brady has the weapons to expose the secondary and a running game that should be much more effective against Indianapolis than it was versus Baltimore.

Andrew Luck will push the envelope in Foxborough, leading to untimely interceptions. And as ESPN Stats & Info noted, the Patriots are easy money when excelling at turnovers:

As for the Seahawks, they're one victory away from the Super Bowl and haven't even beaten an above-.500 team in the postseason as of yet. They overcame a tough test from the Carolina Panthers, dominating them in the fourth quarter as the Seahawks are known to do and stopping their multifaceted rushing attack.

Standing between them and a trip to Glendale, Arizona, are the Green Bay Packers, who were drubbed 36-16 at CenturyLink Field back in Week 1. If you can believe it, the Seahawks secondary has even improved since then and will make life difficult for a still-hobbled Aaron Rodgers

That sets up a mouth-watering Super Bowl matchup between two teams that seem destined to add another Lombardi Trophy to the trophy case.

In a matchup that could truly go either way, the Patriots' grit and poise will bring them over the top. Brady has the experience and expertise to attack the Legion of Boom secondary in a way it hasn't been all season, and Rob Gronkowski will be a matchup nightmare in the middle of the field.

Having to address the Gronk problem in the second half, Brady will have one-on-one matchups on the outside to exploit—and exploit them, he will.

Seattle's offense was a wrecking ball in last year's Super Bowl, but it will have a much tougher time setting the tone against New England's front seven.

Without its typical running-game dominance, Russell Wilson will be forced to make plays over Patriots cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner—which won't go according to plan.

Prediction: Patriots 27, Seahawks 23
