Biggest Potential X-Factor: Tom Brady and New England’s Offense

Sticking with the ground game will be key to any team’s success in the postseason, but the biggest X-factor Saturday will be the ability of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots passing attack to make things happen.

The temperature will be cold in New England for this divisional-round battle, and it is imperative that Brady and his receivers have a game plan and execute it to perfection despite the hostile conditions.

The Patriots finished the regular season ranked ninth in the league in pass yards per game with 257.6, and New England is facing a favorable matchup. Baltimore’s defense has allowed an average of 248.7 yards, ranking the Ravens 23rd overall.

When asked about how dangerous the Patriots offensive unit has become, running back LeGarrette Blount told Doug Kyed of NESN.com, “Nobody can stop us but us. The focus is on us this week to correct all the stuff that hasn’t been going too well for us.”

New England’s official Twitter account revealed a stat about the dominance from Brady and head coach Bill Belichick:

The Patriots will get big yardage through the air, but the hope is that the team can find its rhythm again after letting off the throttle at the end of the year due to already clinching a first-round bye and home-field advantage.

With legitimate weapons like wide receivers Julian Edelman and Brandon LaFell, tight end Rob Gronkowski and pass-catching running back Shane Vereen, Brady and the New England offense will have ample opportunities against Baltimore’s lackluster secondary.

As long as the offensive line can offer the quarterback protection, the Patriots should be able to advance to the AFC Championship Game.

Predicted Final Score: New England 30, Baltimore 27
