Liverpool Transfer News: Steven Gerrard Sparks Rumours of Reds Return
Steven Gerrard has admitted there's a possibility he could return to Liverpool on loan during the MLS offseason.
The current Reds captain, who is leaving Anfield to join Los Angeles Galaxy when his contract expires at the end of the current Premier League campaign, believes he could link back up with Brendan Rodgers' side in the future. This would allow him to maintain fitness through training sessions or lend Liverpool extra quality to secure their domestic goals.
Despite this chance of a return, Gerrard hasn't had time to seriously consider the scenario, as highlighted during his interview with James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo:

"I've not even thought about the possibility of a loan. I've not had that conversation with anyone. I can't rule it out, but I can't confirm it would happen either.
The way the season works in the MLS there's a break around winter time. What I can say is that I'd love to be able to come back and train with the lads to keep my fitness levels up. Whether that could lead to playing for the club again I don't know. That wouldn't be my decision. You'd have to ask others that question.

Frank Lampard has raised eyebrows this season after turning his initial half-season loan to Manchester City into a season-long placement, reported by Neil Ashton of the MailOnline. Lampard signed for New York City FC—the English side's sister club—during the summer but is yet to play for the Big Apple outfit.
In fact, Lampard has become a key member of Manuel Pellegrini's squad, scoring vital goals in limited appearances. His equaliser against Chelsea, not to mention winners against Leicester City and Sunderland, could turn out to be vital in the Premier League title race.
City are already seven points better off with his five goals and one assist in the division, excellent business considering he has registered just 364 minutes' play, per WhoScored. With Yaya Toure expected to miss multiple weeks during the African Cup of Nations, City's capture of Lampard significantly aids their chances of silverware.

Granted, such a deal makes a mockery of UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules—in theory, there's nothing to stop NYCFC signing Lionel Messi and loaning him to the Etihad without the cost impacting the club—but Pellegrini is working to ensure City don't receive further punishments after failing to meet the governing body's demands last season.
Gerrard could offer a similar boost to Liverpool. Legendary Reds striker Ian Rush certainly wants him to entertain the idea of a return, noted by Sky Sports:
The skipper has netted four times in his last two matches, suggesting his match-winning qualities remain intact. Alex Dimond of B/R UK believes the midfielder will be a huge success in the United States:
It's easy to see Gerrard leaving the door open to Liverpool. If the club needs him, he will likely return in an instant. Rodgers will be keen to establish new leaders without their talisman, however, and could be forgiven for not wanting to stumble over old ground.
Gerrard still has plenty to offer at the age of 34. It wouldn't come as a major surprise to see him run out in front of the Kop after the conclusion of the season despite the sense it's the right time for both parties to go their separate ways.
