NFL Playoffs 2015: Updated Divisional Round Odds and Bracket Scenarios

R. Cory SmithJan 7, 2015

Less than 26 days. That's all that stands in the way between now and the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.

For now, NFL fans will simply have to settle for the divisional round of the playoffs. If it's anything like the first round, the second round will come and go with only one truly entertaining game for any audience.

Sure, Baltimore Ravens and Carolina Panthers fans probably enjoyed watching the teams win over their opponents by a combined 24 points. This weekend should be different. At least, that's what we hope.

Bracket Scenarios

Hoping for a home playoff game at some point this January? Well, fans of the aforementioned teams in Baltimore and Carolina can't possibly earn that right. However, some teams might not want to play at home.

Take Baltimore for example. Since 2010, the Ravens have faced the Patriots three times in Gillette Stadium in the playoffs, winning two of those games. ESPN Stats & Info provides a look at the dominance in those victories:

No, Ray Lewis and Ed Reed aren't running onto the field anymore, but the Ravens looked great without them in Pittsburgh. If Baltimore can somehow pull off the upset again, it would open the possibility for either the Indianapolis Colts or Denver Broncos to host the AFC Championship Game.

Mike Greenberg of ESPN offers his take on the tough matchup for the Pats:

Another team that might not want to play at home moving forward is the Dallas Cowboys. Playing at home is typically a comforting environment, but for some reason Dallas is 5-4 at home, including the victory over the Detroit Lions.

On the other hand, the 'Boys are 8-0 on the road this season heading into Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. Jordy Nelson spoke about what he believes makes Dallas excel on the road.

"The way they run the ball and are able to play defense, you’re going to win games on the road," Nelson said, via Mike Spofford of Packers.com. "They’ve won some very quality games on the road. But we’re very good at home, and it’s going to make for a good matchup."

A Cowboys win would send shockwaves throughout the NFC and might lead to another showdown with the Seattle Seahawks. If they can disperse the Panthers, the Seahawks would host the NFC Championship.

For those who don't remember, Dallas went into Seattle and won, 30-23, to prove it was a team to contend with in the NFC East. Nearly three months later, there might be another matchup with both teams looking for a coveted prize—the right to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
