Curtis Axel, Uhaa Nation and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Curtis Axel and Uhaa Nation, two wrestlers at completely different points in their careers, are set to journey to a new home—WWE NXT.
For Axel, the trip is about rejuvenating a stagnant career. The latest news surrounding him gives fans a good idea of how long to expect him to stay at Full Sail University.
An update on the "Nation to WWE developmental" situation will make fans of the talented indy wrestler quite happy.
In other NXT news, CJ Parker stopped tweeting, a number of wrestlers are getting tryouts in the near future and NXT is set to widen its audience.
Uhaa Nation Reportedly Signs Developmental Deal
1 of 5After months of uncertainty about whether Nation was leaving the independent circuit for NXT, it looks like it is finally going to happen.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required, h/t Wrestling Inc) reports that Nation and WWE have agreed to a deal.
That is a major boost for NXT. Nation is a gifted athlete and is already a thrilling sight in the ring. He's been a star for Dragon Gate USA for the past few years.
With more training and experience, he's going to have no issue bypassing other prospects. Expect big things from Nation.
CJ Parker Goes Twitter Silent
2 of 5CJ Parker may not be on social media for a long time.
On Monday, Parker tweeted, "Twitter silence until I win the @WWENXT CHAMPIONSHIP!" He also erased all of his previous tweets.
Parker hasn't made much of an impact on NXT as of late, asked to be the prey more often than the predator. In 2014, he went just 4-12 on NXT TV, per CageMatch.net. The chances of him suddenly getting to NXT title level are slim.
No word on whether this is Parker's idea or an angle NXT officials asked him to play out.
Backstage Word on Curtis Axel's Involvement with NXT
3 of 5Axel first made his intentions to come to NXT known in December, as seen in the video above. Apparently he will be making his home at Full Sail University for a good while.
According to F4WOnline (h/t Wrestling Inc), Axel will play a role similar to what Tyson Kidd did last year, which involves him bringing some star power from the main roster for a few months.
Kidd stuck around NXT on a regular basis from April to October. If that's the template WWE is going to use for Axel, that should have him working with Hideo Itami, Sami Zayn and others until the summer.
It's an opportunity for him to recharge himself as a character as Kidd did, but it's also a great chance for the prospects to see what they can do against main-roster talent.
Tryout News and Notes
4 of 5WWE is going to get a good look at a number of potential prospects.
Chelsea Green, who played Daniel Bryan's physical therapist on Raw last August, will be among them. The Times Colonist reports that Green "is preparing for a paid, three-day tryout this month with World Wrestling Entertainment in Orlando, Florida."
That is most likely the tryout camp that the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted (h/t SEScoops) will be held in a few weeks. The report also states that the camp will feature a large number of women.
With Sasha Banks and Charlotte seemingly closing in on call-ups, there will be room for newcomers in the division. Green trained under Lance Storm, and should WWE offer her a deal, she would join Emma on the list of the former WWE star's students to make it to NXT.
The Wrestling Observer also reported (h/t Wrestling Inc) that John Minton Jr. (son of Big John Studd) worked a tryout match at the tapings in Laredo, Texas.
The WWE Network (and Consequently NXT) Coming to the United Kingdom
5 of 5A passionate fanbase will soon get access to the WWE Network and a weekly dose of NXT. As reported by Variety, "WWE has set a new Jan. 19 launch date for its digital network in the United Kingdom and Ireland."
There has to be some doubt in UK fans' minds, though. WWE has announced a network launch date for the nation in the past, only to later announce that it was delayed.
If everything goes to plan this time, more fans will get a chance to check out both new and old editions of NXT, including the live specials.
And, as noted in the video above, NXT will now air on Wednesday nights. That makes room for SmackDown's return to Thursdays.
