Liverpool Transfer News: Dissecting Latest Tyrone Mings, Neto Rumours
The January transfer window has finally opened, and judging by the latest rumours, several players linked with a move to Liverpool could soon become available.
The Reds haven't had much luck in the 2014-15 Premier League season so far and enter the transfer market with a handful of needs, but after a busy summer window, movement in and out of Anfield should be limited in January.
That's not to say manager Brendan Rodgers won't add to his squad—in fact, looking at the team's position in the standings, it would be a surprise if no reinforcements arrived. But January also offers the possibility to lay the groundwork for next summer, and it looks like the summer window could offer plenty of opportunities for the Reds to get better.

Transfer Target Tyrone Mings Discusses Premier League Offers

Ipswich Town youngster Tyrone Mings reportedly sits near the top of Liverpool and Arsenal's wishlist, but according to the 21-year-old defender, his current club is yet to receive any formal offers for his services.
He also expects to finish the season with Ipswich, as he told Sky Sports (h/t Daily Star's Nick Lustig):
"I haven't received any offers.
It's very easy to keep doing what I am doing. The speculation has come from me playing well at Ipswich and getting the opportunity here so that's all I can continue to do, to play well and keep my attention here.
I don't know if an offer would turn my head. We have to wait for that day to come but I doubt it would.
"
The Southampton youth product has greatly impressed during the 2014-15 season with the Tractor Boys, flashing all of the traits necessary to be a top defender on the highest level.
He primarily plays as a left-back but has the body type and skill set of a traditional centre-back, combining size, passing ability and vision with impressive pace for a man his size.
The keyword with Mings is "potential," but judging by his incredible development over the past 12 months, it's not a stretch to believe he could soon be ready to handle a starting role in the Premier League. His ceiling is incredibly high, and his current level of play is already impressive.
He's also known as a high-character guy who does lots of work for charity and often makes incredible gestures toward the Ipswich fans. BBC Sport's Pat Murphy is a fan:
Mings appears to be enjoying life with Ipswich and likely won't come cheap, but looking at his long-term potential, a significant investment might not be such a bad idea. Any transfer fee would likely be under £10 million, a bargain for a young, talented kid with tremendous upside.
Such a low transfer fee would also allow the club to add more pieces in midfield and attack, areas Bleacher Report's Ryan Bailey and Janusz Michallik highlighted when they discussed the team's transfer needs:
As of right now, a January transfer appears unlikely, but expect Mings' stock to take off by the time the summer window opens.
Neto Turns Down Fiorentina Contract

Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto has officially declined Fiorentina's final contract offer, meaning he'll become a free agent at the end of the season. La Viola announced the news via their official website:
"ACF Fiorentina must announce that goalkeeper Norberto Murara Neto today officially informed the club of his intention not to prolong his contract with the Viola. The decision is definitive.
"
Neto was keen to make it known that his decision is entirely unrelated to financial motivations, with his desire to be free to decide his own future the sole reason behind his move.
But due to UEFA regulations prohibiting teams from the same domestic league signing players to a pre-contract, Juventus and Roma can't approach Neto during the January window while Liverpool can.
Fiorentina aren't expected to move their stopper in January although the right offer could persuade them to cash in now. Free agency is more likely, however, meaning the Reds could add an experienced, proven commodity as competition for Simon Mignolet without having to pay top dollar.
Don't expect Neto to sign a pre-contract in January—the stopper took his time deciding whether or not to stay with La Viola, and he'll likely do the same as he determines where his future will play out.
