On The Farm: PawSox, Salem Sox Lose... Sea Dogs Win
Former PawSox pitcher David Pauley returned to his old stomping grounds and pitched the Norfolk Tides (BAL) to a 5-3 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox this evening at McCoy Stadium.
Pauley pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks… he struck out three hitters.
PawSox starter Randor Bierd outpitched Pauley and handed his relief corps a 3-1 lead, but the ‘pen proved unable to protect the advantage. Reliever T J Large surrendered three runs in the seventh inning and Marcus McBeth allowed an insurance run to cross the plate in the ninth inning as the

On the Maine coast, righty Adam Mills improved his record to 10-5 as he won his eighth straight start in the Portland Sea Dogs 8-1 win over the Altoona Curve (PIT)… with the win, he became the first pitcher in the sixteen-year history of the franchise to win eight straight starts. He is just the fourteenth pitcher in Sea Dogs history to win ten games.
Mills became the first Sea Dogs pitcher to go eight innings all season… he allowed one run on five hits while striking out eight.
Ryne Miller worked the ninth inning for Portland allowing one hit and striking out two.
Altoona starter Derek Hankins allowed eight runs on ten hits in six innings of work.

The Salem Red Sox lost for the tenth time in eleven games as they fell to the Kinston Indians (CLE), 2-0, in North Carolina.
It was the thirteenth time the Red Sox were shut out this season.
Starters Kyle Weiland (Sox) and Russell Young (Indians) waged an impressive pitcher’s duel, but the Kinston lefty was just a bit better. He allowed just two hits over 6 1/3 innings. Weiland’s record fell to 3-9 in spite of the fact that he has tossed six quality starts…. he allowed just one run on four hits in six innings.
In a scoreless game, Kinston’s CF Adam Davis hit a two-out double with no one on base in the sixth inning… the next batter, 3B Lonnie Chisenhall, delivered the eventual game-winning run with a double to right-center field.
Two innings later, Davis crushed a solo home run (#7) off the scoreboard in right field to make it 2-0.
Salem managed just three singles in the ballgame — each came with two outs. Only once did a Red Sox baserunner reach second base when Lin stole second base in the sixth inning.
Salem and Kinston will play Game Two of their four-game series tomorrow at 7:00 PM. Dave McKae gets the start for the Red Sox… the Indians starter remains undetermined.
