Someone Loves BJ Penn: Giving Base to the Baseless
Somebody powerful loves BJ Penn.
That person, specifically, is Yahoo!'s Cagewriter editor, Steve Cofield.
Today, I found out that BJ's baseless steroid accusations concerning Georges St. Pierre have been featured as a headline story on the Yahoo! homepage.
BJ Penn is a stranger neither to stirring up controversy, nor to making accusations that he cannot back up; yet the Cagewriter blog chose to feature BJ's latest accusations, even calling them "a bombshell."
The blog entry, written by Maggie Hendricks, does question Penn's view, but when his words are given such attention and are called "a bombshell," BJ Penn is clearly getting too much respect.
Penn's antics are being dignified more than they deserve, yet this isn't the first time the Cagewriter blog has done this.
A few weeks ago, Penn posted a video of himself doing a jump out of a three-foot-deep pool. The feat had already been accomplished—and even bettered—by many different people, and yet the video turned into a big sensation when it turned up on the front page of Yahoo.com.
It seems that Penn can do almost anything and make it on to the Yahoo! homepage, as long as Steve Cofield is in charge.
Aside from that, the Cagewriter blog provided extensive coverage of Penn's side of the so-called "greasing controversy," such that Steve Cofield has admitted that many in his audience have accused him of being "a BJ Penn nuthugger."
Clearly, Cofield hasn't learned. He continues to dignify BJ Penn's asinine statements. It's time for this to stop.
Steve Cofield needs to be stopped.
