The Injustice Of Preseason Awards
Okay, know I definitely hate Pre-season awards. I was checking out secsports.com when I came across an article talking about the Davey O'Brien Award. In this article, it talked about the award and also gave 33 names that are on their watch list.
The normal stars are there—Tebow, McCoy and Bradford—but what floored me was some of the other names, such as...
Taylor Potts (Texas Tech): To my knowledge, he hasn't started a game in his career. He's played in a lot of games doing mop-up duty. I know the system is actually what is getting watched here, but there is no way he deserves to be on this list.
Jarrett Brown (West Virginia): What, because you are a Senior and have backed up the best QB to come out of West Virginia, you deserve to be on this list?
Aaron Corp (USC): Hey, I got it—if you have thrown four passes in your career, you can be on this list. Some people will tell you Corp will battle Barkley all year long for the starting job, but hey, he deserves to be on the list. NOT!
Ryan Mallett (Arkansas): Look, I love the SEC, but i still don't agree with this. Mallett didn't play last year, so how can he be on this list?
There are probably others that I missed. I know here and B/R we can't stand Preseason anything, but this is getting totally out of hand.
I hope these QBs have great years, but please earn something before you get labeled as being on a watch list. I do not blame the players—the blame needs to go to whoever released this watch list.
Sorry for the rant,
