Auburn and the Three-Headed Running Back Recruting Monster
Auburn is in the hunt for three top running backs for it's 2010 recruiting class: Michael Dyer, Marcus Lattimore and Lache Seastrunk. It's a stretch to assume Auburn could get all three, but the concept of at least getting two of them is well within reach. Just look at Ronnie Brown and Carnell Williams.
Rumor has it that Dyer and Seastrunk like the idea of the one-two punch. Here's a little insight on these three backs.
Michael Dyer
This 5-foot-9, 201-pound, Little Rock, AR native has Auburn at the top of his list. He's also entertaining offers from Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Alabama, to name a few.
Dyer is the No. 6 overall recruit and No. 1 RB in the nation according to the ESPNU 150. Rivals.com lists him as five-star running back that possesses great vision, power, and hands, along with good speed.
His high school stats to date are extremely impressive: 652 attempts in 35 games, 8.2 yards a carry, and 43 touchdowns by way of 5,595 total rushing yards. He also set the high school record for "Rushing Yards by a Sophomore" in '07 with 2,710 yards and 28 touchdowns.
Needless to say, this guy would be an asset to any program.
Marcus Lattimore
Measuring in at 6-foot and 210 pounds, this Duncan, SC native is also being heavily recruited by Auburn, along with the likes of North Carolina, Penn St., and FSU. He's listed as the No. 10 overall recruit and No. 2 RB nationally according to the ESPNU 150.
This five-star (Scouts.com) runs a 4.46 40-yard dash. In his junior year at James F. Byrnes High School, he tallied 2,303 yards on 305 attempts and 30 touchdowns. He has a big, powerful frame with good vision and discipline.
Auburn—anyone for that matter—would be lucky to list this guy on their roster.
Lache Seastrunk
Fast, explosive, electric—these are just a few words used to describe this 5-foot-11, 192-pound Temple, TX native. Rated as the No. 20 overall recruit and No. 4 RB on the ESPNU 150, Seastrunk is being recruited by Auburn, Florida, USC., Texas, Oklahoma, Miami, and LSU.
In his sophomore and junior years at Temple High School, Seastrunk's yards per carry average was 10.4. He racked up 3,703 total rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. The scouting report also boasts his ability in the return game, along with his ability to reach top speed by his second or third step.
Impressive, to say the least, but with many major programs in the hunt, it won't be a cakewalk to reel this guy in.
