John Cena Beats Seth Rollins Cleanly on Raw

John Cena and Seth Rollins faced off on the holiday edition of Raw, and the match ended in familiar fashion. Even with J&J Security attempting to interfere on Rollins' behalf, Cena got the upper hand and managed to defeat Mr. Money in the Bank cleanly.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Does This Booking Make Sense?

When Cena and Rollins wrestled in a tables match at TLC, most expected Cena to come out on top. With Cena's No. 1 contendership for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line, all signs pointed toward that occurring.

That is precisely what happened, although it occurred in a somewhat bizarre way. Cena essentially put Rollins through a table three times in that bout, and he put both Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble through tables as well, which is the type of Superman booking many fans have grown to detest over the years.

Rollins did get a win back on a subsequent episode of Raw, when Brock Lesnar interfered in a steel cage match. Rather than simply letting the feud end there, though, WWE felt the need to give Cena yet another victory over Rollins.

While Cena obviously needs to look strong leading up to the Royal Rumble, at which he is set to take on Lesnar, there are ways to make that happen besides having him constantly beat up on the company's top full-time heel.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

While WWE's handling of Cena vs. Rollins has been something of a head-scratcher, this is far from the first time something like this has happened.

Just two years ago, Cena feuded with another Money in the Bank briefcase holder in the form of Dolph Ziggler. With help from AJ Lee, Ziggler beat Cena in a ladder match at TLC, but Cena proceeded to beat Ziggler on multiple occasions on subsequent Raw and SmackDown events, which is basically the same thing that is happening between Cena and Rollins at present.

One might assume that WWE should have learned from its past mistakes, but that clearly isn't the case.

Multiple up-and-coming heels have been fed to Cena over the years, and Rollins is simply the latest example. Rollins is obviously talented enough to get past this and have a successful career, but this type of booking isn't doing him any favors.

A disqualification loss with Cena hitting an AA after the match would have been just as effective. However, WWE seems obsessed with asserting Cena's dominance.

Bray Wyatt Defeats Dean Ambrose Once Again on Raw

For the third time in just over a week, Bray Wyatt and Dean Ambrose battled in a hardcore match.

Wyatt came away victorious once again after smashing Ambrose's face against a kendo stick that was wedged in the turnbuckle. WWE's Lunatic Fringe ultimately got the last laugh, though, by attacking the Eater of Worlds after the bout.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Has This Booking Damaged Ambrose?

Monday's match was the latest chapter in a rivalry that has existed since Hell in a Cell. While Ambrose has certainly gotten his shots in, Wyatt has now won three of the four matches between them.

Wyatt's victories came at Survivor Series, TLC and Raw, while Ambrose's lone win came during a Boot Camp match at Tribute to the Troops. This feud has likely reached its conclusion with Royal Rumble approaching, which means Wyatt is the decisive winner.

Most probably expected Wyatt to win the feud due to the fact he was removed from television and built back up after he and the Wyatt Family were destroyed by Cena. If the plan all along was to have four matches between Wyatt and Ambrose, though, there is no reason why they couldn't have split the feud and moved on to bigger and better things afterward.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

Ambrose is unquestionably one of the most popular Superstars on the roster right now, and he seems like the type of wrestler who doesn't necessarily need to win a ton of matches in order to maintain that popularity.

WWE played up to that throughout this angle by having Ambrose lose only to bounce back by giving Wyatt a beating. It wasn't exactly even-Steven booking, but Ambrose probably won't come out of this rivalry any worse for wear.

With that said, neither Superstar gains much from this either. Wyatt versus Ambrose was essentially a holdover feud meant to give both men something to do until the start of WrestleMania season. Wyatt and Ambrose are rising stars who probably would have benefited more from being put in feuds they could have dominated, but WWE clearly felt it was important to showcase them on a main event level.

It was ultimately a pretty forgettable feud, though, and both guys figure to have bigger and better things ahead of them.

RRR Interview with TNA's Bobby Lashley

As one of the top stars in both TNA and Bellator, few people have more on their plate than Bobby Lashley.

The Destroyer will main event the Jan. 7 episode of Impact against Bobby Roode in TNA's return to television and debut on Destination America. Ahead of that big championship match, Lashley joined Ring Rust Radio to discuss his presence and future in both wrestling and mixed martial arts.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What's Next for Lashley?

Before TNA's hiatus from television, Lashley dropped the TNA World Heavyweight Championship to Roode.

Prior to that, however, Lashley had what was unquestionably one of the most dominant title reigns in the history of TNA. He defeated all of the company's top contenders in impressive fashion, and he has designs on taking the title back when he gets his rematch against Roode.

"

I think we rose that bar really high coming into this third match. The first match we had was incredible and the person that was supposed to win won. The second match was as incredible if not better.

So with this third match, we're really going to have to give the crowd what they want, but at the same time, we know who should be the champion—especially in TNA—and that's me.

Destination America, Jan. 7. I think it would be a good time for them to go ahead and hand the title over to the real champion, and then we can run it the rest of the year that way.

"

TNA would obviously love to make a good first impression on Destination America, and much of that falls on the shoulders of Lashley and Roode. If their previous meetings are any indication, though, they won't have any trouble putting on a fantastic show.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

Lashley has certainly excelled in the realm of professional wrestling over the past year, but he is also a rising MMA star as well. He boasts a career record of 12-2 in the octagon, and he is a perfect 2-0 since making the jump to Bellator.

There has been some talk regarding Bellator making a play for Lesnar when his WWE contract expires, and Lashley admitted that he would love to have a crack at the Beast Incarnate.

"

If Brock does sign over with Bellator. I think one of the biggest fights he could have is me. ... We just have always had a lot of comparison, so this time, give the fans what they want.

Brock and I would beat each other up pretty bad, but we will walk away very financially healthy. As far as who would win, of course I’m going to say myself. I wouldn’t take the fight if I thought I was going to go out there and get crushed.

Our styles match, and we wouldn’t over do the other person, since we have the same styles. It would be a very strategic match, and I like the matchup.

"

Lashley has proven himself to be a great competitor, but he has never met anyone with the pedigree that Lesnar possesses as a former UFC Heavyweight champion. If the two of them ever meet in the octagon, though, there is no question that it will have people talking.
