Manchester City Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of December 22
After a run of eight straight victories, Manchester City's season is now set up nicely for a silverware push in the new year.
They find themselves in the last 16 of the Champions League and set to face Barcelona, and they have eradicated Chelsea's lead at the top of the Premier League table. The west Londoners may still have a game in hand, but after being eight points ahead just a few weeks ago, they are now being put under severe pressure by a rejuvenated City side.
With that in mind, and with injuries to key players, City boss Manuel Pellegrini may be tempted to reshuffle his pack somewhat in January. A striker is likely to top his list of priorities, but there could be some other movement too.
Here's this week's roundup of the transfer talk concerning City.
City Eye Move for Kevin De Bruyne
1 of 2
According to John Richardson in the Daily Express, Pellegrini is targeting former Chelsea man Kevin De Bruyne as he looks to strengthen his options and work within FFP restrictions.
The Belgium international, who moved to Wolfsburg in January for £18 million, has impressed in the Bundesliga this term, and City could swoop for the 23-year-old.
It is likely he would cost somewhere in the region of £20 million.
Move for Wesley Sneijder Blocked
2 of 2
The Daily Mirror's John Cross believes City's attempts to sign Wesley Sneijder will be blocked by Galatasaray, despite his agent visiting England last week in a bid to tout his client around Premier League clubs.
Sneijder's contract difficulties mean he could be available at a cut-price fee, with City and sister club New York City FC said to be interested parties.
It could be that Sneijder moves to New York to free up Frank Lampard to stay in Manchester for the rest of the season, but Galatasaray, it seems, are doing all they can to block a move.
