NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship 2014: Score and Twitter Reaction
The Penn State Nittany Lions did it again. On Saturday night in Oklahoma City, the school's women's volleyball team continued its dominance by winning its seventh national championship in nine years. The Brigham Young University Cougars gave a great effort, but this one wasn't close.
Penn State swept the Cougars 25-21, 26-24 and 25-14.
NCAA Volleyball captured the emotional celebration after the final point was scored.
Senior and Division I Player of the Year Micha Hancock is a native of Edmond, Oklahoma. The win coming close to her hometown seemed special.
She had seven points on 14 serves in a modest performance by her standards.
Hancock's teammates stepped up in a major way. Aiyana Whitney was a beast with 11 kills on 30 swings, but Megan Courtney was voted the Most Outstanding Player.

She had 11 kills and accounted for 14.5 points.
Jennifer Hamson was good in a losing effort for BYU. She had 14 kills and a game-high 16 points. BYU was bidding to become the first unseeded team to win a national championship, but the Nittany Lions were too strong.
The pivotal point came during the second set.
With the set tied at 24, a service error and attack miscue by Tambre Nobles gave the Nittany Lions the final two points and all the momentum heading into the third set.
The Cougars tried to stand firm, but Penn State hit a hot streak near the midpoint of the final set. The score jumped from 11-7 to 16-7, and the deficit proved too much for BYU to overcome.
Head coach Russ Rose has led Penn State to all seven of its national championships in the sport, and the 61-year-old Chicago native has a great team returning. Hancock is moving on, as are three other seniors, but Courtney and Whitney will lead another strong team in 2015.
Could Rose be adding to his legacy? Play-by-play announcer Mike Wolf already considers Rose to be at the top of the heap as it pertains to legendary coaches in the sport:
It's hard to argue with Wolf's statement. The success speaks for itself. This program has taken its place among the best in all of collegiate sports.
