Adorable Kid Sports Reporters
Who doesn’t love adorable kids? Even better are adorable kids reporting sports news.
Today we bring you some of the cutest sports fans around, including Joey the Junior Reporter, a little dude who gets all access to the Chicago Blackhawks. We also have a re-enactment of Richard Sherman’s most famous interview and a kid who has vast knowledge of Little League baseball.
Bring on the cuteness.
Honorable Mention: Talking with Kids
1 of 13This one gets the honorable mention because it’s not quite in the category of “kid reporter.” Dad is the reporter and the kids are being interviewed. It is, however, a sports interview involving adorable kids, and I feel your day will be better for watching this.
Featured are Bean, age six, and Berry, age three. According to these two, LeBron James is either a baseball player or a macho squirrel. Berry will win the Stanley Cup, which, according to Bean, is gold. Berry is also big on this idea of sports candy, which, I have to admit, sounds like it would be pretty great.
Brodie Myers for OSU
2 of 13Brodie Myers loves Oklahoma State athletics. Then eight years old, Myers entered the Today Show’s contest for best kid sports reporter in 2009. His spirited report on the goings-on of OSU athletics earned him a spot as a finalist in the contest, which originally garnered over 1,000 entrants.
As a finalist, Myers appeared on the Today Show, where he demonstrated a touchdown call that would rival any adult sportscaster out there today.
Kansas State Media Day
3 of 13Kansas State athletics has a kid reporter named Matthew. The bespectacled youngster was on hand for football media day in 2014, and he was all business. Matthew asked the burning questions about windbreakers and bow ties and also got into a footrace with a lineman.
More Kansas State
4 of 13Matthew does basketball, too. This time around, the questions focused on haircuts and travel. But the absolute best was when he whipped out Justin Edwards’ baby picture. Classic.
Little League Expert
5 of 13If you’re looking for local news about minor league baseball and Little League, this nine-year-old has you covered.
In this home video, he provided game recaps as well as upcoming game information, complete with times and locations. He also provided his own insight into the matchups. All in all, a very well-rounded report. Not bad for nine years old.
Frankie Sanchez for the Marlins
6 of 13This cutie, Frankie Sanchez, donned a bow tie and khakis for his reporting gig with the Miami Marlins.
During a batting practice session in 2013, Frankie asked the players, “Who’s the smelliest player on the team?” and, “Who takes the longest to style their hair?”
He also had some home-made-looking posters of athlete-celebrity look-alikes. The best one? Giancarlo Stanton and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Sports Illustrated Kid Reporter
7 of 13Sports Illustrated has a whole program for kid reporters. Here is a priceless video of Jake finding out he is going to be one such reporter. Read my lips: He’s pretty jazzed.
Maxwell Award Finalists
8 of 13
In December, ESPN enlisted some tiny experts to weigh in on the finalists for college football’s Maxwell Award. The kids aren't the ones asking questions, but they are on set to provide expert analysis, so we'll count them as kid reporters.
The experts weren’t sure who the players were, but they did have some spirited opinions on the mascots of each finalist’s respective school.
Lancaster Barnstormers
9 of 13The Lancaster Barnstormers are an Independent League baseball team, and they have an awesome kid sports reporter on their hands.
In 2012, young Gavin Glass asked players what their favorite Olympic sport was. Gavin was unclear on what the biathlon is, and well, who can blame him? He had also never heard of the javelin, but once he found out what that was, he had one word: awesome!
NBA Hoop Troop
10 of 13Two kid reporters brought us coverage of the 2013 NBA draft in this video. They have a lot of important questions about wardrobe and style for the draftees. They continually ask, “Who is the best dressed?” which is unneccesary because clearly it is the boy reporter. Check out that sharp vest and tie!
Joey the Junior Reporter Talks Playoff Beards
11 of 13Joey the Junior Reporter is an adorable young chap who has, on several occasions, informed the world about all things Chicago Blackhawks.
One of his best segments was this 2013 gem about playoff beards. Joey showed off a variety of facial hair options as he interviewed Blackhawks players in the locker room in search of the truth about just whose playoff beard is the best.
We also found out that Patrick Sharp’s baby daughter is afraid of his beard. That is real news, folks.
Joey the Junior Reporter, Christmas Edition
12 of 13In 2010, Joey the Junior Reporter brought us a pretty fantastic holiday segment. Has Jonathan Toews been naughty or nice? Joey finds out. Why should John Scott get coal for Christmas? Just ask Joey.
Check out more of Joey’s adorable segments on YouTube.
Richard Sherman Re-Enactment
13 of 13Well, this might be the cutest thing ever. These kids reenacted the infamous interview between Erin Andrews and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. Delightful nuggets include:
“I’m the best quarter in the game!”
“Would you try me with a crabby receiver with Crabtree?”
There is also a dinosaur helmet. Yep, cutest thing ever.
