Picking a Combined Liverpool-Arsenal XI
Arsenal travel to Merseyside to face Liverpool in the Super Sunday clash at Anfield, looking to avenge last season's incredible 5-1 defeat.
Back then Liverpool were in their prime, with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, ably supported by Raheem Sterling, running amok up front.
Brendan Rodgers' side aren't quite in that form now, while Arsene Wengers' side have had an equally frustrating start to the new campaign.
Liverpool, though, enter the game five points behind Arsenal and must win in order to maintain their top-four hopes.
Ahead of the match, we bring you a combined XI between the two sides.
It's a theoretical XI which perhaps epitomises both clubs at present, with a not particularly excellent defence, but a pretty incredible attacking lineup.
Wojciech Szczesny
1 of 11
Liverpool and Arsenal have a lot in common when it comes to squad weaknesses, and the main one is in goal.
Simon Mignolet's form has dropped so much that Rodgers has dropped him for Brad Jones of late, so it's an easy option to put Wojciech Szczesny in here.
Mathieu Debuchy
2 of 11
The signing of Frenchman Mathieu Debuchy was an astute one by Wenger in the summer, bringing in a proven replacement for departing Bacary Sagna.
He gets the nod quite comfortably ahead of Glen Johnson.
Laurent Koscielny
3 of 11
There's a very French feel about this back four.
In all honesty, neither Arsenal nor Liverpool are blessed with quality centre-backs (or defensive midfielders), so this is by far the weakest part of this theoretical XI.
The experienced Laurent Koscielny makes up the first half of the centre-back pairing, just getting the nod over Per Mertesacker, whose immobility sees him too easily exposed by opposing forwards.
Mamadou Sakho
4 of 11
He might not be in favour with Brendan Rodgers, somehow shunned for £20 million-man Dejan Lovren, but Mamadou Sakho is Liverpool's best centre-back.
He's only 24, with plenty more development to come, but he captained Paris Saint-Germain as a teenager and is France's first-choice centre-back for a reason.
His first year in England wasn't perfect, but then no Liverpool defender has thrived under Rodgers' management.
Imagine how good he could be once he's mastered English, benefitting from a second season in the Premier League, and with good defenders around him.
Kieran Gibbs
5 of 11
The final spot in defence goes to an Englishman.
Alberto Moreno might get the nod here in a few years, but he's currently struggling to impress and settle in England with Liverpool, so Kieran Gibbs lines up at left-back, ruining the all-French back four!
Steven Gerrard
6 of 11
We're lacking a holding midfielder here, so we're going back to last season and sticking Steven Gerrard as the deep-lying playmaker.
The major problem with Gerrard in this role this season has been the lack of movement up front and forwards pushing the opposing defence back to give him the room required to excel from deep. This would be no such problem with the attacking players lining up in this XI, as you'll see hereafter.
Gerrard's leadership, set-pieces and experience would be the glue to hold the XI together.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
7 of 11
We're going for an energetic, young, dynamic midfield and attack ahead of Gerrard to do the work and press opponents.
It was a choice between Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. We're going to give the Arsenal man the nod, given his strength and pace from the middle. If he can stay fit, he could start to shine in the central midfield role for club and country.
Aaron Ramsey
8 of 11
The third midfielder spot goes to another Arsenal man, Welshman Aaron Ramsey.
Still only 23, Ramsey has plenty of development ahead of him. He and Chamberlain would provide plenty of energy and drive from midfield, plus goals.
Raheem Sterling
9 of 11
The first of our three attackers is Liverpool's prodigious talent Raheem Sterling.
Offering pace, creativity and trickery, Sterling would get in most sides and easily takes his place in this XI.
Alexis Sanchez
10 of 11
The next forward is one that got away from a Liverpool perspective; Chilean Alexis Sanchez.
He's been a revelation since opting for Arsenal over Liverpool when moving from Barcelona in the summer.
This XI will have Liverpool fans thinking of what might have been.
Daniel Sturridge
11 of 11
Completing the front three is Daniel Sturridge. Alongside Sterling and Sanchez, this would be a phenomenal attack.
Clinical finishing with pace behind and an eye for the unpredictable, Sturridge would lead the line and interchange with his fellow forwards.
