Benzema, Khedira and the Top January Transfer Targets for Arsenal
Arsenal have endured a highly disappointing season so far.
At the moment, they find themselves sixth in the Premier League and a mammoth 13 points behind leaders Chelsea.
The need for reinforcements is obvious, but whom should Arsene Wenger attempt to lure to the Emirates?
Here I list the five players Arsenal should look to target in the January transfer window.
Karim Benzema

A forward line boasting Olivier Giroud or Danny Welbeck is highly unlikely to ever win the Premier League or Champions League.
Arsenal need to recruit a proven and prolific world-class striker and rediscover the same ambition that, according to Dominic King and Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail, saw them bid £40 million for Luis Suarez last year.
The signing of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who has scored 125 goals since arriving in Spain in 2009, would certainly be a statement of intent that could re-energise Arsenal's season.
Mats Hummels

After conceding 19 goals in their first 16 games in the Premier League this season, Arsenal’s defence needs to be augmented in January.
Following Borussia Dortmund’s own poor start to the season, Arsenal might be confident of luring Mats Hummels to north London.
The German World Cup winner would immediately bring a new presence and reliability to the centre of the Arsenal defence.
Aymeric Laporte

While Mats Hummels is the finished article in central defence, Wenger might also be tempted to add some potential to his back four.
And if so, Athletic Bilbao’s Aymeric Laporte is the perfect candidate.
The 20-year-old central defender has been impressing in La Liga this season and is expected to feature in the France squad soon, as per LaLigaNews.TV.
Sami Khedira

Despite constant speculation last summer, it was hugely frustrating to Arsenal fans they weren’t able to secure the signing of Sami Khedira by the end of the transfer window.
Four months on it would appear to make sense for Arsenal to now get the deal done in January.
The German international would be an astute signing for Arsene Wenger’s side and greatly improve his midfield, giving them the defensive cover they have lacked so far this season.
Petr Cech

There is a creeping suspicion Wojciech Szczesny is not developing into the commanding goalkeeper he once threatened to become.
If Arsenal should grow impatient, there is a perfect replacement looking for first-team football just a few miles away at Stamford Bridge.
Petr Cech remains one of the world’s best goalkeepers and will not be content to be second choice at Chelsea for much longer.
Simon Jones of the Daily Mail reported in November that Arsenal are interested in the Czech Republic keeper and are the favourites to sign him.
