Jarryd Hayne Impresses NFL Scouts, Close to Deal with Lions
Jarryd Hayne has impressed in testing and is reported to be "closing in on a deal" with the Detroit Lions according to Fox Sports Australia.
The former rugby league star has been training as a running back, although may also act as a punt returner. He reportedly had an above average showing in the 40-yard spring, while also performing well in strength testing. It was also stated that he is progressing well in learning the theoretical side of the game.
Twelve scouts were present to watch Hayne and he is now set to visit the Lions for a second time.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The move is not an insignificant one. Hayne leaves the NRL after arguably his best season for his beloved Parramatta Eels. Along with North Queensland Cowboys ace Jonathan Thurston, he was voted joint-Player of the Year in the Dally M Awards. He was also a key player at representative level, helping New South Wales to their first State of Origin series win in nine years.
As a rugby league player he was dangerous running from fullback. Strong in the open field, he could spot gaps and break tackles on the counterattack, while also coming into the line effectively and boasting a skill set which allowed him to be a threat both passing and kicking the ball.
The NFL is a different game and requires a different skill set. It has been suggested that he has bulked up and is looking stronger and faster, which will help in his new game, which is more focused on short bursts.
If he can break through it would spell a threat to both rugby league and rugby union, as it would provide a very lucrative option for players of those sports if they were to choose it.
But so much might hinge on Hayne. If he is successful it would be hugely encouraging. If not, you would have to think there would be few others that could be successful, as few others have the athletic ability Hayne possesses.
