FC Barcelona vs. SD Huesca: Score, Report and Reaction from Copa Del Rey

Michael CummingsDec 16, 2014

Pedro scored a hat-trick as Barcelona eased into the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with an easy 8-1 victory over third-tier Huesca on Tuesday night at the Camp Nou.

After winning the first leg 4-0 two weeks ago, Barcelona were firm favourites to progress, and with Tuesday's win the Blaugrana finished off a 12-1 aggregate victory.

Pedro struck in the 20th, 26th and 43rd minutes as the hosts raced to a five-goal lead by half-time. Andres Iniesta and Sergi Roberto also netted before the break, while Adriano, Adama Traore and Sandro Ramirez added three more in the second half. Carlos David headed in Huesca's only goal four minutes from time.

In the round of 16, Barcelona will face either Elche or Valladolid. First, though, Luis Enrique's side will return to La Liga action with a home match against Cordoba on Saturday.

Barca remain in the hunt for silverware on multiple fronts but will have to continue posting good results as the new year approaches. The Blaugrana have reached the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, where they will face English champions Manchester City. In the league, Barca trail rivals Real Madrid by four points.

Despite facing almost impossible odds in a four-goal deficit at the Camp Nou, Huesca started well and created the game's first chance in the fourth minute. Javi Cabezas picked out Juan Esnaider in a dangerous position in the middle with a cross, but Esnaider placed his header wide of the goal.

Two minutes later, Huesca came even closer. Chus Sosa supplied the cross from deep, but this time Esnaider hit the right post with a header from the middle of the box.

From there, Barca began to dominate. In the 10th minute, Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez saved a Roberto header. Four minutes later, he saved again as Pedro placed another header on target.

The opening goal felt imminent, and Barcelona found it in the 20th minute. After breaking the offside trap, Munir El Haddadi crossed from the right flank with the outside of his boot, picking out Pedro in the middle of the box. Unmarked, Pedro directed an angled header into the net for a 1-0 lead.

Barcelona doubled that margin in the 26th minute when Pedro netted for a second time. Iniesta supplied the assist with a chip over the top. After gliding past his marker, Pedro beat Jimenez one-on-one from a tight angle.

Three minutes later, Roberto made it 3-0. Martin Montoya set it up, playing a cutback from the right for Roberto to clip into the net over the goalkeeper.

All the action was in Huesca's half, and in the 39th minute, Iniesta grabbed Barca's fourth goal. The home side played keep-away around the edge of Huesca's box until Roberto picked out Iniesta with a through ball. Iniesta turned expertly and swept into the bottom corner for 4-0.

Barca weren't done yet. In the 43rd minute, Pedro finished off his first-half hat-trick with a high drive into the top corner from the edge of the box for the Blaugrana's fifth goal.

With the hosts leading by five at half-time, both the match and tie were effectively finished. But still Barcelona attacked. Montoya volleyed into the side netting in the 49th minute, while Adriano shot over the bar from close range four minutes later.

The sixth goal finally arrived in the 68th minute, with Adriano slipping behind the defence before beating Jimenez at his near post from the edge of the box.

The only drama left in the match centred on which player Enrique would send on as Barca's third and final substitute following Douglas and Sandro. That honour went to Adama, who announced his presence memorably with a fine goal in the 78th minute, his first senior strike for the club. Taking possession in midfield, well outside the box, the 18-year-old Spaniard weaved through a forest of defenders before slotting past Jimenez for Barcelona's seventh goal.

Barcelona still weren't finished, however. In the 83rd minute, Sandro raced onto a through ball from Rafinha behind the Huesca defence before rifling a low shot into the bottom corner for an 8-0 lead.

Huesca were thoroughly beaten, but the visitors had something to celebrate four minutes from time. After his side won a corner, David headed in at the near post to give Huesca a late consolation goal.

Reaction

Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique was quoted by the club's official website as saying: "It's hard to imagine a game better than this."

He added: "We played a great game on defence. Very good."
