The Huskies can ill-afford to lose their star.
A critical part of the team's 2014 national championship run, Boatright has assumed a role as UConn's leader after the departures of Shabazz Napier and DeAndre Daniels. Blindingly quick and capable of penetrating any defense, the 6'0" guard leads the team in minutes, points, assists, steals and is third in rebounds.
He has already dealt with an ankle sprain and leg contusion this season, although both of those afflictions were minor.
Kevin Ollie won't be able to easily replace one of the best players in the country should this injury prove serious, but he fortunately has depth in the backcourt to slightly ease the loss.
Daniel Hamilton, Rodney Purvis and Sam Cassell Jr. are all capable of handling the ball, with Hamilton likeliest to take over as the team's go-to offensive option in Boatright's absence.
The 6'7" freshman, via Borges, recently discussed his pleasure in passing the ball:
Still, while Hamilton has shown the ability to both score and distribute, the loss of Boatright takes away a certain explosive, defense-collapsing element.
That was evident during the Huskies' 57-53 overtime loss to Temple on Wednesday.
