Hudl's Top 5 High School Football Catches of 2014

Sean HojnackiDec 22, 2014

These five stunning catches run the gamut of slick-handed plays, ranging from a no-look grab around the defender to a ridiculous run after the catch. And instead of just one one-handed catch, here are three insane one-handers. In fact, the catches are so crazy that a couple of defensive backs got in on the action too.

Sam Wisneski

1 of 5

Sam Wisneski, a freshman at Ashwaubenon High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin, hauled in this impressive 50-plus-yard touchdown catch around the defender's back.

The defensive back clearly commits the familiar NFL infraction of not looking back for the ball, shamelessly face-guarding Wisneski—who snagged it anyway. The best part might actually be that the defender has no idea Wisneski caught it until the wideout was already lunging into the end zone.

Angelo Wiggins

2 of 5

Angelo Wiggins dazzled his teammates from Wayne Memorial High in Michigan twice on this play. After his quarterback bought a little time in the pocket, Wiggins snagged the pass in tight coverage downfield.

OK, that's a nifty catch—but that's it, right? Then Wiggins managed to shed tackles by backpedaling 15 yards, staying on his feet, breaking two shoestring tackles and sprinting down the sideline before finally being tackled a yard shy of pay dirt. Now that's some serious YAC (yards after catch).

Luke Christiano

3 of 5

Luke Christiano did the state of New Jersey proud with this play. Representing Cranford Varsity Football, Christiano managed to crack the list of best catches while playing defense.

He was in no way fooled by the opponent's tricks on the double-reverse wide-receiver option play, and Christiano stuck with his man down the left sideline before skying up in perfect position to make the high school defensive version of Odell Beckham Jr.'s one-handed catch.

Michael Bryja

4 of 5

Not to be outdone by the handy defense of Cranford's Luke Christiano, Portage Varsity's Michael Bryja from Pennsylvania dazzled with his own one-handed interception. With the intended receiver getting behind three defenders, it seemed he'd streak into the end zone as soon as he hauled in the downfield bomb.

Instead, Bryja leaped up and snatched the interception like DeAndre Jordan catching an alley-oop from Chris Paul. If Bryja doesn't already play for Portage's basketball team, then someone should show the coach this video.

Terrell Chatman

5 of 5

There's a reason that Terrell Chatman has committed to play football at Miami University. Just ask anyone down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

With Central High School Varsity set up in a goal-to-go situation, Chatman's QB forgot to put any air under the pass to the back pylon. Running a fade pattern, Chatman sparkled with this one-handed grab looking more like a center fielder gloving a liner in the gap.
