Look Back To The Cavs 2008-09 Season

Vince ChoiAug 2, 2009

Back in Feb 2009, when the trade deadline got close, I thought the Cavs were the major player to make a big trade to bring another good player in order to help the King to reach the final and win it all. But by the end of the day, they didn't make a move at all, which shock me and I still don't understand at this point.

The key player of the trade deadline is Wally Szczerbiak, who was playing his final year of his contract which worth $13 to $14 million. At that point, the Nets are looking for trade VC out of NJ just try to save some $. Both WS and VC have similar salary and it makes scene for both teams as well: the Cavs can get a true shooting guard and bring them deep in the playoff and the Nets can start rebuilding and saving money for 2010.

And everyone knows what happened in the playoff: the Cavs lost to the Magic 2-4 because Lebron didn't have enough support, and later on VC got traded to.... guess what? The Magic! So instead of having VC for next few seasons, Lebron will play against him and his Magic in the future.

Because of not making a trade for VC, the Cavs will not win it all this season again (although they will face the Lakers in the final). Lebron will play in New York with another superstar and players like Shaq, Big Z and other free agents from the Cavs will leave, which means they have to start rebuild the team again. And Danny Ferry will always look back and think, "Why I didn't make a trade for VC?" for a long time.
