Real Madrid vs. Cornella: Goals, Highlights from Copa Del Rey Match

Ryan BaileyDec 2, 2014

Real Madrid went into their Copa Del Rey Round of 32 second leg against Cornella with a 4-1 lead from the first leg. Hence, Los Blancos were able to rest the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale against the third-tier side.

However, the defending champions were given an early scare by their lowly Catalonian visitors, who drew a penalty from an Alvaro Arbeloa foul in the 13th minute. Sadly for the underdogs, Xavi Boniquet sent it high over the bar.

Less than two minutes later, Real Madrid punished Cornella for failing to seize the opportunity by taking the lead through a lovely James Rodriguez chip.

In the 31st minute, James played an exceptional through-ball to Isco, who made it 2-0 with a similar chip over beleaguered Cornella keeper Inigo Alberto.

Less then two minutes later, the European champions scored once again. Javier Hernandez provided James with a delightful backheel assist on the edge of the area, which he duly finished for his second of the evening.

On the hour mark, Cornella went 8-1 down on aggregate when Chicharito cannoned a shot against the bar, forcing defender Xavi Pelegri to turn it into his own net.

Jese scored Los Blancos' fifth and final goal of the evening in the 77th minute, with a diagonal drive across the goal set up by an Isco pass.

It was Jese's first game back after 258 days on the sidelines, and he also marked it with a very cheeky nutmeg.

Madrid went through to the Cop del Rey Round of 16 with a healthy 9-1 aggregate score.
