Marco Asensio

Friday, December 5

Despite earlier reports, as noted below, stating that Mallorca were holding out for more money, Real Madrid confirmed the signing of Marco Asensio on Friday afternoon.

Their brief statement read:

"

Real Madrid C. F. and R. C. D. Mallorca have reached an agreement for the transfer of Marco Asensio, who will join our club for six seasons. The player will remain at R. C. D. Mallorca until the end of the current season.

"

Manu Sainz of AS notes that Asensio may spent a further year on loan at Mallorca if the Balearic Islanders are promoted to the Primera Division at the end of the current season.

Friday, December 5

Manu Sainz of AS reports that Mallorca president Gabriel Cerda is keen to secure a higher transfer fee for Marco Asensio following renewed interest from Barcelona.

It was expected that Real Madrid's €3.7 million offer for the 18-year-old would be accepted by the Mallorca board at a meeting on Wednesday, but Cerda now wishes to hold out for his full release clause of €4.5 million.

Sainz reveals that this change of heart was prompted by an offer from Barcelona, who are eager to avoid losing out to their domestic rivals in the race for the talented youngster's signature. He does, however, note that Asensio's desire to join Madrid is likely to prove decisive.

Wednesday, December 3

Pedro Fullana of AS reports that the Mallorca board will convene on Wednesday to decide whether or not to accept Real Madrid's offer for Marco Asensio. Sporting director Miguel Angel Nadal will present the capital club's proposal, which Fullana outlines as follows:

"

Nadal has closed the deal with the club from the Spanish capital for a sum of 3,7 million euro, a loan deal with Asensio staying at Mallorca until the end of the season and a “preference option” should Mallorca get promoted to the top flight and Madrid can’t find him a place in the side, then he would be loaned out to Mallorca rather than play in Castilla.

"

It is thought likely that the transfer will be approved, although some opposition still remains from board members aligned with former Barcelona coach Lorenzo Serra Ferrer.

Monday, December 1

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the club are pursuing a move for young Mallorca winger Marco Asensio.

On Saturday, Asensio revealed to SER (h/t AS) that Mallorca are in advanced discussions with Madrid. He told them that he hoped the deal would be concluded shortly.

And Ancelotti has now provided the first official confirmation from the Madrid end that a deal is being sought.

"He is a good player," Ancelotti said at his press conference ahead of Madrid's Copa del Rey tie against Cornella on Tuesday. "We are interested in him and are trying to sign him for next summer, not in January."

Martin Odegaard

Friday, December 5

Real Madrid look likely to face stiff competition from Liverpool in the race for the signature of Norwegian youngster Martin Odegaard.

Odegaard was given a tour of Madrid's training facilities last month, and informal discussions took place over a potential five-year contract. Both he and his father were said to have been very impressed by what they saw and by Madrid's assurances that he would receive plenty of first-team opportunities in the future.

Madrid are very keen to secure his services. Indeed, Jose Felix Diaz of Marca reports that Florentino Perez is willing to pay whatever it takes to sign up the talented 15-year-old when turns 16 later this month.

Liverpool could, however, be set to throw a spanner in the works. Per AS, Odegaard was shown around their training facilities on Wednesday and had dinner with the club's Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho that evening. Odegaard is a boyhood Liverpool fan and the suggestion is that he could be persuaded to turn down Madrid in favour of a move to Merseyside.

Lucas Silva

Friday, December 5

Cruzeiro president Gilvan de Pinho Tavares has set a €15 million asking price for Real Madrid target Lucas Silva.

Per AS, Tavares confirmed at a press conference on Thursday that he is yet to receive a formal offer for the midfielder. "But we have already set a price for the player, based on his market value," he continued. "For any figure lower than 15 million euros, Cruzeiro is not willing to negotiate."

He also confirmed that their is interest from clubs in both Spain and England, although he refused to name the teams in question. Madrid and Arsenal are the two who have been most readily linked to the 21-year-old.

Monday, December 1

J.F.D. Madrid of Marca reports that Real Madrid are likely to push ahead with the signing of a midfielder in January, with Cruzeiro's Lucas Silva the most probable target.

The club have been tracking the 21-year-old Brazilian for some time and have slight reservations about his injury record but are convinced he is a bright prospect for the future.

Madrid writes that Los Merengues will sign Silva in January if they are able to negotiate a fee of less than €10 million.

He also reports that Christoph Kramer of Bayer Leverkusen, currently on loan at Borussia Moenchengladbach, is another option being considered by the Madrid hierarchy.

Meanwhile, The Sun (h/t BBC Sport) report that Arsenal will rival Madrid for Silva's signature. They quote a likely price of £12 million (€15 million).

Jese Rodriguez

4 of 5

Thursday, December 4

Jese Rodriguez made a successful return to the Real Madrid first team by coming off the bench to score the fifth goal in their 5-0 victory over Cornella in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday.

The forward had been out of action since February after suffering a serious knee injury. Per Jose Felix Diaz of Marca, Florentino Perez has been impressed with the cantera graduate's determination to return to full fitness and is now keen to offer him both a pay rise and contract extension.

The 22-year-old's current deal expires in 2017. Diaz reports that Madrid will offer him a contract through to 2021. He would earn an initial salary of €2 million per season, which would then increase year by year.

Marco Reus

Wednesday, December 3

Borussia Dortmund chairman, Hans Joachim Watzke, has insisted that the club has no pre-existing arrangement with Real Madrid in respect of a potential transfer to the Bernabeu for their attacking midfielder Marco Reus.

"It's mindless to think that there is some kind of agreement with the club regarding a first buying option," he told Marca. "The player will decide for himself where he wishes to go. If he decides to make use of the rescission clause, there is nothing we can do about it."

The rescission clause Watzke mentions stands at €25 million. Madrid are thought to be just one of a number of big European clubs interested in securing Reus' signature at this price point.
