Overview
Bangladesh currently sit on the brink of a five-match winning streak. With one match left to go against Zimbabwe, a win in the fifth and final ODI will be a remarkable turn of fortunes compared to the horror show that engulfed them earlier this year.
Zimbabwe have shown signs of revival, but they just haven’t been able to capitalise. That’s probably down to being completely stripped of confidence after being so thoroughly beaten over the course of this series.
For Bangladesh, it is important that they do not take their foot off the gas. A 5-0 series win will be a massive boost in confidence as teams begin to put the final touches on their World Cup preparation.
Bangladesh have completed whitewashes before, most recently in a three-match ODI series against New Zealand last year. However, this is an important test of mental strength that will stand them in good stead when the World Cup rolls around.
The hosts have plenty of positives to take from the series and with no international cricket scheduled until next year, this is their last chance to make the most of every opportunity they are given.
Key players
Bangladesh
Mushfiqur Rahim tops the run-scoring charts with 202 runs at an average of 50.50. Bangladesh have put in an all-round good effort, but they now need to show that they can do this consistently and even when there is no pressure on them. Rahim's theatrics (he's hit the most sixes out of all Bangladesh players this series) will go a long way in setting the hosts up for a clean sweep.
Zimbabwe
Elton Chigumbura has been one of Zimbabwe's better batsmen. He's one of just three players to have scored more than 100 runs across four matches. With so many of his teammates low on confidence, a big innings from Chigumbura could set the visitors up well.
