Mr Anderson, You Are Not The ONE.
This is the mantra of many frustrated Browns fans.
We know the when, where, what and how. Nobody knows why.
As a browns fan, I want whats best for the team. For the last 10 years , or since Bernie was sent to Dallas, we have been an empire without a emperor,a kingdom with no king. Instead we have been forced to follow the ebb and flow of a sea of QB controversy. A controversy that has eroded the hearts and minds of a fair few QB's and the fans that supported them.
As we embark on a new season, nothing has changed.
Only, this season, something has to change.
A great deal of Browns fans have a bone or two to pick with Mr Anderson. A man that many feel ruined the Browns playoff hopes in 2007. Specifically on a windy day in Cincinnati with gusts on the field up to 35mph. Mr Anderson threw 2 interceptions in the last 2min of the second half, resulting in 2 Bangles touch downs.
Anderson ended the day with almost 300yds passing and 2 td's and 4ints completing 29/48. Meanwhile J.Lewis rushed for 92yds on 21 carries.
On a day, that it would have been smart to run the ball, why were we passing?
On the other hand,Carson Palmer completed 11/21 115yds 1td and 2int. The Bangles RB's combined for 146yds on 31 attempts. Now,do the math.
This is the part where I get to the point.
We all know Anderson can be a stellar QB. His glaring problem seems to be a matter of a split personality. There is no doubt that he sometimes takes big chances. This game is one of inches. Anderson can laser a ball into coverage with pinpoint precision. His arm strength gives him the confidence to take some gambles. In the gambling world "when you're hot you're hot". The flip side being.....
With the RAC/Savage regime we had a kindergarten playground atmosphere it seemed. No one in the Browns organization seemed to have much of an attention span. From the front office to the 50 yard line the team was full of misdirection and a gross lack of discipline .A defensive guru for a head coach who operated one of the wost defenses in the league. A new offensive coordinator seemed to be a mad scientist, with no one to mentor him.
There is great debate on the competition between Brady Quinn, the hometown favorite, and Derek Anderson the giant moose from Oregon.
The fact of the matter is, no one knows who the better QB is. The former staff had a terrible track record of utilizing talent. One would have to think they were just as terrible at coaching it.
I have faith in Derek Anderson. I do not hate Brady Quinn. I just have not seen much of him to really form an opinion. I have witnessed Anderson in the latter part of the 06 season and the 07-08 season. I see a lot of upside to a 6'6" rock thrower that towers over his line with a clear line of sight.
ONE who has the arm strength to stretch the field and thread the needle.
ONE who posses the necessary amnesia to let the last INT fade from memory, just enough to allow you to make another attempt.
ONE who has some experience to build from.
Most great QB's take a few years to get going.

I am not one to deny Quinn his chance to show what he can do. Just as I believe Anderson deserves a chance to improve upon what we know he can do
