Liverpool Transfer News: Martin Montoya Agent Urges Move, Divock Origi Latest

Gianni VerschuerenNov 27, 2014

Liverpool continued their disappointing season with a 2-2 draw against Ludogorets Razgrad on Wednesday, and with several regular starters struggling to make an impact, fans are looking at the January transfer window for answers.

A number of young, talented players will be available, if the latest reports are to be believed, and manager Brendan Rodgers is expected to add at least one or two pieces to salvage a season that is quickly starting to spiral out of control.

The Reds have a young but inexperienced squad, and as Rodgers continues to build with an eye on the future, the club will be linked with a host of young talent once again rather than established stars. Here's the latest transfer news coming out of Anfield.

Martin Montoya to Depart Barcelona in January

The agent of Barcelona's Martin Montoya has advised his client to hand in a transfer request in January, with Arsenal and Liverpool rumoured to be interested in the full-back's services, per the Daily Express' Ben Jefferson (h/t LiverpoolFC.com).

Speaking to El Confidencial, player representative Juan de Dios Carrasco said:

"

It’s very difficult but we are speaking to the club about finding a solution in the winter market.

Luis Enrique has already told him he is behind Dani Alves and Douglas, but it now seems he is also behind Adriano.

My advice to him is to ask for a transfer, not to go out on loan.

We are faced with him being loaned out until the end of Luis Enrique’s contract in 2016, but Martin neither wants to go on loan or wait to see whether Enrique renews or not.

"

Once hailed as one of the best defensive players to emerge from the La Masia system in recent years, the 23-year-old has hardly featured for the Blaugrana under new manager Luis Enrique. According to WhoScored.com, he has played just one match all season.

Dani Alves is Barcelona's choice right-back, with Douglas and Adriano also receiving more minutes at the position. But while Enrique doesn't appear to rate Montoya at all, El Mundo Deportivo (h/t Barcastuff) are convinced the Spaniard still has a future at the club:

Montoya seems destined to move in January, but with the Reds investing in Spanish duo Alberto Moreno and Javi Manquillo during the summer, it's doubtful Rodgers will be looking to add another full-back to his squad in January.

The Gunners appear a more likely destination for Montoya, who will prefer a destination where he's virtually guaranteed to start.

Lille Rule Out Divock Origi Recall

Fans praying for Belgium international Divock Origi to return from his loan spell with Lille in January can stop, as club manager Rene Girard has confirmed the forward will stay in France until the end of the season.

As reported by ESPN.com, he said, "There's no worries as far as Divock Origi is concerned. He's with us, and he will be until the end of the season, as planned."

The 19-year-old star completed a transfer to Liverpool during the summer, but as part of the agreement, he would remain with former club Lille for the 2014-15 season. Daniel Sturridge's persistent injury problems and Mario Balotelli's lack of form led to speculation said agreement could be amended, however.

The youngster's development since appearing for Belgium in the 2014 World Cup has been impressive, but one of the Reds' biggest concerns in 2014-15 has been scoring, an area where he still has much to learn. Per WhoScored.com, he's bagged just four goals on the club level during the current campaign.

Origi is talented but raw, and Lille still provide him the best opportunity to develop as a player and hone his talents. As shared by the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce, Rodgers too believes the Belgian will stay in France for the remainder of the campaign:

The 2014-15 season already looks like it could end in major disappointment for the Reds, so it makes little sense to rush one of the club's top talents along and risk harming his development.

Teammate Confirms Daley Sinkgraven Will Move

Heerenveen's Marten de Roon is certain that teammate and highly rated youngster Daley Sinkgraven will leave the club at the end of the season, according to the Daily Star's Alex Harris.

Speaking to Dutch magazine Voetbal Primeur, he commented on his fellow midfielder, who has been dubbed "the new Steven Gerrard."

"He is so nimble, he almost dances on the field. He can do anything with his left foot," De Roon said. "Daley is a player for whom people come to the stadium. I hope he stays during the winter, but in the summer he will surely move to a big club.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2013-14, and his excellent form in the current campaign has attracted the attention of the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

Sinkgraven has exceptional vision for such a young player and the passing ability to distribute the ball through the smallest gaps. His age is often visible on the pitch, however, and with Dutch giants Ajax also interested, most pundits believe that's where the midfielder will end up.

He scored an own goal the last time both teams met, and Goal's Peter McVitie couldn't help but feel manager Frank de Boer will see Sinkgraven net plenty more at the Amsterdam Arena very soon:

With Gerrard nearing the end of his career, it would make sense for the Reds to nab the player whom plenty of people see as his natural replacement.

But given Ajax's excellent reputation for talent development and Sinkgraven's rawness, Liverpool may be better served biding their time and making their move at some point in the future.
