Liverpool Transfer News: Latest on Jurgen Klopp, Nathan Redmond and More

Gianni VerschuerenNov 23, 2014

Liverpool's disappointing 2014-15 campaign continued on Sunday with a 3-1 loss at Crystal Palace, meaning the Reds have won just two of their last nine in the Premier League. Unsurprisingly, fans and pundits are ringing the alarm bell, and transfer speculation is rising as a result.

Brendan Rodgers is under fire for the shortcomings of his young, inexperienced squad, but some of the veteran stars have also looked shaky in the past few weeks. Fresh blood is needed, so here's a look at the latest transfer news coming out of Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp to Replace Brendan Rodgers?

Rodgers is still the manager of the Reds until further notice, but that isn't stopping people from speculating who could be his replacement (should the Liverpool board decide to go another way).

The Daily Express' Anthony Chapman believes Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp could lead the line, based on quotes he recently made about the possibilities of him coaching in England:

"

I think England is the only country I think where I should work.

It's next to Germany because it's the only country I know the language a little bit and I need the language for my work.

If somebody will call me, then we will talk about it.

"

The German has been wildly successful leading Dortmund back to the ranks of the elite in the past few years, but his club has struggled tremendously in 2014-15. Injuries have taken their toll, and departing stars like Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze have been difficult to replace.

Rogers knows his position has come under pressure, as reported by the Sunday World's Kevin Palmer:

The Daily Mirror's Oliver Holt doesn't think he'll be sacked anytime soon, however:

The 2014-15 season was always going to be a difficult one for Rodgers, with Luis Suarez leaving the club and a host of youngsters adapting to life in the Premier League. Add injuries to the mix, and you end up with a rough situation.

Klopp would undoubtedly be an excellent replacement for Rodgers, but unless the current campaign really takes a turn for the worse, the Northern Irishman won't be sacked anytime soon.

Nathan Redmond Battle Developing

Liverpool are eyeing a January move for Norwich City's Nathan Redmond, and the Daily Star's Paul Hetherington believes the Reds will go head-to-head with Southampton in an attempt to poach the winger with a £10 million bid.

The 20-year-old was on the Saints' radar during the summer but stayed put, per Hetherington. But Liverpool are now determined to bring the talented youngster to Anfield and pair him with former England U21 teammate Raheem Sterling.

Redmond has all of the physical tools to be an excellent Premier League winger, but a lack of polish has so far held back his development. OptaJohan's Nikos Overheul explains:

He's a project player—and one who would require a lot of work. If the Reds are truly looking for an impact player to turn their fortunes around in January, Redmond doesn't fit the description.

A £10 million price tag seems steep for such a raw player, and the Reds already boast an impressive collection of young talent. If Rodgers is looking for that one player to turn the club around, Redmond would be a very unlikely purchase.

Rickie Lambert to Return to Southampton on Loan?

Finally, the Daily Express' Izzy Horsefield suggests Rickie Lambert could be returning to Southampton on a loan deal in January, despite just making the move to Anfield during the summer.

The 32-year-old just scored his first goal for the Reds on Sunday against Crystal Palace but has started just twice in the Premier League, via WhoScored.com. Horsefield believes he could return to St. Mary's in search of more playing time.

The suggestion is somewhat far-fetched, to say the least. The Reds have struggled for goals in 2014-15, so they can hardly afford to send a forward out on loan. Meanwhile, Graziano Pelle has been excellent since joining Saints in the summer, and Jay Rodriguez will return to the squad as well at some point this season.

Liverpool can ill-afford to lose him, and Southampton have no need for his services. A January loan deal makes no sense for either of the parties involved, so don't expect this to come to fruition.
