Overview

Pakistan come into this game on the back of a draw in the second Test against New Zealand, a match in which the Black Caps had the better of the play.

The visitors batted first and made 403, led by 137 by opener Tom Latham, with contributions coming all the way down the order but no other batsman passing 50.

In response, Pakistan made 393, with Sarfraz Ahmed making 112 and Azhar Ali and Younis Khan both chipping in with 70s.

New Zealand looked to push the tempo in the second innings to set up a match-winning target, and they made 250-9 thanks to Ross Taylor’s 104.

That left the home side needing 261 for the win, and they closed on 196-5, meaning the game was drawn.

Pakistan are still 1-0 up in the series but know that a poor game here can let the New Zealanders come away with a series tie.

Key Players

Yasir Shah

In New Zealand’s second innings, Yasir Shah took 5-79 with his leg-spin, the first time he took a five-wicket haul in a Test match.

The 28-year-old will be riding a confidence high and will once again take advantage of spin-friendly conditions.

Ross Taylor

A centurion and man of the match last time out, New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor is crucial for his side.

If he can recapture his form from the second innings, the visitors will be in a good position to be victorious.
