The 2009-'10 Season Might Be One to Forget for the Miami Heat
A demand for a championship team has resulted in countless flurries by the Miami Heat organization to bring in a fellow star to help Dwyane Wade's quest for his second return to glory and to ease the workload off his back.
A delayed trade, losing out on one of the most talented swing-man in the league, and making no major signings later, the Miami Heat might be left behind after a stagnant off season.
With Lamar Odom finally making his decision to return to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Heat, after much courting and begging, are now stuck between a rock and a hard place as they have made no moves to convince Wade otherwise to sign an extension and remain in Miami for years to come.
The planned trade between the Heat and Utah Jazz that was supposed to bring in all-star Carlos Boozer has been delayed for a possibility of up to a few months and even waiting until near the end of next season.
The Jazz have reportedly said that they are willing to wait for however long until they get the player they want from the Heat, which happens to be Michael Beasley. With a minimal chance of moving Beasley, the Heat should not expect to see Boozer suiting up in Miami until next year when he is a free agent.
Nearly every team in the Eastern conference has bolstered their teams, including three division rivals in the Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards. The Heat failed to keep up this off season and what used to be a confirmed playoff spot, could come as more of a problem than expected.
The core of Dwyane Wade, Jermaine O'Neal and Udonis Haslem is in no way shape or form fit to compete with the powerhouses of the East and after an unsuccessful off season could have trouble competing with the middle-of-the-pack teams.
While Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers have most likely improved over the off season in talent and experience, having two second year players on the starting lineup is not enough to have this team make a legitimate title run. The loss of Jamario Moon is not benefiting the team either, as his athleticism and shooting ability will be missed when a stable player is needed off the bench.
The Heat now only have to wait another year when the 2010 off season rolls around and the chance to pick up another young star will be before them. Signing another big name now though will not be on the top of Pat Riley's priorities, as Dwyane Wade will be a free man and will need more than a promise to be kept around.
Amare Stoudemire and Chris Bosh could be potential suitors to Dwyane Wade, but the 2008-'09 season could be one to forget if the Heat make no major moves before the season begins.
