Milan Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of November 17
Behind every transfer is a story about failure, a club or clubs that decided to pass on a player who emerged on the other side as star.
Usually, it is AC Milan who win that struggle. They claimed Marco van Basten, Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pirlo before Inter could really appreciate them, and they bought Kaka and Thiago Silva for a few million before selling them for hundreds more.
But in recent years, they have slipped. And maybe that's why they could not arrange a deal for Paul Pogba, who subsequently went to Juventus.
Let's take a look at this week's rumours.
—UPDATED on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19—
Milan Had Their Chance with Pogba

In 2010, Milan and Genoa organized a co-ownership deal for Kevin-Prince Boateng. Genoa earned a tidy profit from the eventual sale, and Milan got their player.
It's the kind of the deal they could have done to acquire Paul Pogba.
Genoa owner Enrico Preziosi met with Pogba and his agent Mino Raiola to discuss a possible move from Manchester United in 2012, as he discussed with Italian outlet Corriere della Sera (h/t Football Italia): “He was asking for a co-ownership with a big club, so I talked about this with [Milan VP] Adriano Galliani, but Milan didn’t accept the conditions dictated by the agent.”
Pogba ended up going to Juventus on a free transfer, where he has become a key component in the midfield.
Matri in Exchange for Perin?

One of Milan’s deepest desires is Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin, and the club could use one of their players on loan as bait.
Alessandro Matri is currently enjoying his loan spell from Milan at Genoa, where he has five goals and three assists in nine Serie A matches. And Milan could offer Matri plus cash (around €7 million) to acquire Perin in the summer, according to Calciomercato.com (h/t Football Italia).
Milan already have Diego Lopez in goal and Christian Abbiati as a backup, so any move would come after the season. But the 22-year-old Perin is linked regularly with Milan.
Perin made his official debut with the Azzurri on Tuesday in a 1-0 win over Albania, and he is regarded as the heir to Gianluigi Buffon.
Robinho Not Coming Back

AC Milan are currently paying 40 percent of his wages, but Robinho has no intention to return to Italy.
“I hope to stay here for many more years," he told Globoesporte (h/t Football Italia), "because I want to continue to bring joy to the fans."
Robinho recently celebrated scoring over 100 goals for Santos, and he appears happy there. But Milan still hold his contract, and Santos President Odilio Rodrigues is prepared to discuss terms with the Rossoneri.
